Every year I have worked on the artwork for @winnipegfolkfestival I wonder if I will get used to this.

And every year I don’t.

Seeing something come alive that was once just a sketch in my note book is one of the greatest privileges of my career. I feel so lucky to be able to dream up the artwork for this beloved festival and watch it bloom in real time.

This weekend I watched people carrying the posters, drinking from the cans, stopping to take photos, and making memories around the festival with our big prairie sun wrapping everyone in love and sun beams.

Fin and I even attempted to camp the festival just mom and son... although he may have been hugged a little too hard by the sun and we had to call it early. We will try again next year…

Thank you to Winnipeg Folk Festival for trusting me again this year. It means more than I can say pretty sure the whole city felt love beaming down on them all weekend! Thanks for making it all happen @cfrayer @valerie_folkfest @lnvb22 and the rest of the crew!

Thanks to everyone for all of the love and support since @thejunoawards ! Matt and I have been lucky to be on this @hellobegonia ride with Alexa for over a decade now. I couldn’t be more proud of her and this album for the win (err.. co-win!? shoutout @bahamasmusic ). Alexa is such a star in every way. It’s really gratifying to see her get the well-deserved love from the rest of the Canadian music scene. Also, she’s one of the most thoughtful, kind and consistently funny people you could ever have in your life. I feel so fortunate for the friendship and artistic partnership I have with her and @matthewschellenberg.

Awards can feel silly, reductive and fickle at times, especially when <gestures towards world>.. but it’s nice to finally get one of these on the 5th swing of the bat (RC, waking eyes, and three with Begonia). There are unsubstantiated rumors that I yelled“f— the Juno’s!” from stage at the winnipeg concert hall the night that Canoe lost in 2014… come on, I would never say something so unbecoming and base(d). 😆

Here’s a few pics from the weekend.. Matt and I decided to go to Hamilton last minute. Really glad we were there to yuck it up Alexa and the whole @birthdaycakerecords crew. ❤️

@thejunoawards recap: long-winded & gay version

Unbelievably honoured to have taken home some hardware from my first ever (!!!) JUNO nomination. I have worked very hard and love my job of singing sad songs SO much. The support from my peers and colleagues has been the biggest win from my weekend by far, and hearing the words "well-deserved" is truly the greatest gift I can ask for. That means I'm doing something right.

I am very proud of this album and to share this win with my manager Joanne, the band, @maggiegeis for wrangling us during the entire recording process and taking the beautiful album cover shots, @jesseannedoll & @dimestoremedicine for their additional engineering and singing on Anvil/Headroom, my brother @tbuckleymusic for mandolin and singing on Anvil, and of course the iconic producer buddy hero @jarradk_allday - everyone / anyone who worked on 'Strange Trip Ahead' deserves this nod just as much as I do. Great art is always a collaborative effort.

The most exciting part of this win is that now, finally, the band and I get to take these songs on tour. My favourite part of the job is working the material, getting better as musicians and connecting with folks all around the world. I hope you'll come out and celebrate with us. First up: an insane amount of shows in Europe!!

What a fun weekend celebrating Canadian music in Steel Town! Huge thanks to everyone who made this weekend so special: @jimcuddyofficial, @beingsampolley & @devincuddy for having me out to sing some Sheryl Crow, the wonderful crew at the Songwrites' Circle, @williamprince and @alyshiagrace for always having my back in an unbelievable way, my team at @birthdaycakerecords and of course, my manager and partner who did all the heavy lifting, ie: keeping my head from exploding.

The last line in the chorus of 'Vending Machines' is "I don't wanna worry my mother." When I wrote that song I was very seriously lost and considering why I had made so many choices to stay on the road while sacrificing so much. I'm very proud to say that my mom watched this win come in live and in person. What a beautiful full circle moment.
