POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

As a celebration of the life and work of Liam Lynch, here are a few photos from the last 20 years.

When we were youngsters in the music scene, the ultimate flex — and seal of approval — was having a Liam Lynch photograph. I’ll never forget the first time he photographed me. It felt symbolic, like I was being seen. This is that photo. Early 2008.

Bittereinder op Kerkplein, PTA. During the shoot this curious girl took a seat on the soldier’s lap. We were unaware but Liam saw and captured a truly special moment.

Bittereinder in the Dogbox at Hotbox, PTA.

Dingy parties before smartphones. No matter how small the event, Liam was somehow always there. Newtown, JHB.

Bittereinder at Oppikoppi Sweet Thing.

Barend, Matthew, Werner. Love you guys

Bittereinder and Carlo Mombelli in JHB.

Liam was a true lover of music, and his work helped shape and document the journeys of so many artists in a way that only he could.

A few years ago, I drove him to JHB after the FVC en Vriende show, and we spent the trip chatting about life. You never know when a meaningful conversation with someone will turn out to be your last.

He had a soft soul, and I’m grateful we got to share that conversation.

Braamfontein or Newtown..?

Bittereinder in die 012!

Rest easy, Liam Lynch.

Dankie dat jy ons jeug gedocument het.

Ons is dankbaar.

Ons sien jou weer. 🤍

A massive throwback to WONDERFEST earlier this year!

What a ridiculously excellent party! Massive shoutout to @praisetheloudmusic and particularly the GOAT @landismile87 for always delivering insane parties!

We’re already nicely lined up for @praisetheloudfest coming in a few weeks! And we can’t wait!

Vanoggend chat ek en @kaktrise oor intertextual interweavings in songwriting, en ek onthou toe hierdie lys wat ek gemaak het van quotations/paraphrases wat ek deur die eerste 4 Bittereinder albums se lirieke geweef het. Made this list for a writing workshop, before the 5th album.

Stepping back onto stage to jam some @bittereinder songs after a gap of three years was such a lovely experience. Shoutouts and big love to @peachvanpletzen and @sognage and @praisetheloudmusic for the opportunity, and to @alexi_wolf and @wikusdewet for the photographs. Om ‘n paar vrae te beantwoord: nee dit is nie die begin van ‘n reunion tour nie. En nee dit was nie die long-awaited “laaste Bittereinder show” nie. Dit was regtig net ‘n surprise, un-announced three-song cameo, for the love of the game. Ons het Hartseer Gangster, Kwaad Naas en Die Dinkdansmasjien gedoen (ek was verbaas oor hoe vinnig DDM se lirieke is, damn). Anyway, if you were there you were there, hope you enjoyed it as much as I did, and if any future things like this happen I’ll be sure to give a bit more of a warning! Jy kan op die laaste foto sien hoeveel ek dit geniet het lol. #bonsweermag #bittereinderisdood

WONDERFEST. What a moment.

Our 30th anniversary celebration turned into something far bigger than we imagined. The room, the energy, the people - it all just rocked. From old school to new, it felt like a once-in-a-lifetime line-up doing exactly what it was meant to do.

Deep gratitude to every artist who stepped in and made it magic:
Springbok Nude Girls, Sugardrive, Van Pletzen (with Jaco joining for that wild Bittereinder cameo), Straatligkinders, ChianoSky, Paul Riekert, Warren & Kevin Leicher, Graeme Watkins, Ashish Joshi, Paul E Flynn, and the original O.G., Danny De Wet.
Special mention to Skrikkeljaar for setting it off with a seriously electric opening set.
And DJ Est from Beatlab — closing it out with those 90s dancefloor heaters was the perfect send.

Massive thanks to our partners and crew: Sognage, Lift Airlines, Sennheiser, Hair Tribe, Apex, Quicket, Norwood Productions, Black Brick Hotel, Fallen Heroes Tattoos.
And the powerhouse Praise The Loud team: Rory, Andries, Meagan, Jess, and our Queen Yoli. You carried this thing with us every step of the way.

To the fans - whether you’ve been with us from day one or found your way back for this - the love in that space was undeniable. We felt it.

We’ve spoken about doing a WONDERFEST for years…
Safe to say, it exceeded every expectation.

Hello dear bookish ones. Today (Saturday) at @woordfees at 14:30 I’m a guest at a live Praating session with @peachvanpletzen about boeke, also joined by @bradabeer and Veronique Jephtas. Just a note that I will have copies of these three boekies with me. Thank you @bibilioteek for the invitation!
