Our next Feast Neuk guest chef is East Neuk native John Sutherland, who will be cooking at Baern on 6 October.

John has spent sixteen years in kitchens. In Scotland: Crabshakk, The Kitchin and Fhior. In Denmark: Alchemist, AOC, and Assistant Head Chef at Kadeau in Copenhagen, which received its third Michelin star in June. Most recently he’s worked at the Kinneuchar Inn with James Ferguson.

Cooking alongside him is Ruth Bowie, from Gloriosa in Glasgow. John and Ruth became friends cheffing in Denmark. We’re so excited to have her cooking here in the East Neuk.

20 guests only.

Dinner will be in the beautiful upstairs dining room at Baern, Hazel and Giacomo’s place at Bowhouse. And our friend DJ Trevor Gow will be playing rare soul records after dinner.

Bjørn Rune Lie is a Norwegian artist based in a small fishing village in Fife, Scotland. 🇳🇴🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🎨

He has worked as an illustrator for over 20 years (for a plethora of international clients), but personal work and experimentation have always been central to his practice.

His “Flamboyant Flowers” series is a vehicle for him to simply explore (and get lost in) different processes and forms of mark making without worrying too much about composition or concept or storytelling. Rather, he looks at them almost as “two-dimensional sculptures” that have a certain physicality and a certain “feel” to them. Although the finished pieces look fairly polished, the process is all about taking risks and embracing the unpredictable in the quest for happy accidents.

Combining techniques like paper marbling and balloon printing, rubber stamps and pochoir stencilling Bjorn creates strange and otherworldly, beautiful and perhaps slightly seedy looking “botanical illustrations” that draws inspiration from ceramic art, “natural curiosities” (Ernst Haeckel and Albertus Seba) and outsider art.

We’re excited to have you featured in our upcoming debut art magazine my friend.
