Online shop update coming soon! For more info and early-access, sign up to my newsletter using the link in my bio. These images show a few moments from unloading @theokidokistudio train kiln in July! ✨

My faceted bowls and yunomi were coated with a variety of celadon, wood ash, shino, blue, and oribe glazes, which resulted in dramatic patterns of flowing glaze. I love how the glazes pooled inside the shell and stone impressions, and interacted with the edges of the facets. Yesterday’s reel shows how I carve the faceted bowls!

The clay “cookies” placed beneath these bowls/yunomi helped catch the flowing glaze during the firing. This technique also made it easier to separate the pieces from the kiln shelf without them getting damaged. This week I’m doing a lot of careful dremeling and sanding to remove the stuck wads and cookies, polish the grinding marks, and make the base of each piece sit flat. It’s a lot of work, but it’s necessary to achieve these dramatic layered-glaze surfaces.

Thanks to @asartoriusceramics for leading this firing and to fellow participants for being a wonderful team: @loonceramics, @windwoodstudio, Carson, and Daniel.

I made these pots in the @bklynclay studio from @tuckers.pottery stoneware and porcelain, and carved them with a @mudtools carving bow and fettling knife. Once bisque-fired, I smoothed and refined all the edges and surfaces using @diamondcoretools sanding pads/paper.

Carving a series of faceted porcelain bowls, which were woodfired in @theokidokistudio train kiln. I threw each of these bowls from 1.5 pounds of HH porcelain from @tuckers.pottery @tuckers.clay, and then carved them with a @mudtools carving bow and fettling knife. I love how the glazes pooled inside the shell and stone impressions, and interacted with the crisp edges of the facets. Let me know what you think! ✨

These bowls will be available in my next online shop update, which I’ll be announcing soon! Sign up to my newsletter for more info and early access (link in bio) 🌿
