Prince Eyoel Dawit Makonnen, Great-Grandson of Emperor Haile Selassie I on Black & Borderless.

Prince Eyoel takes us inside his family’s experience of exile, his first return to Ethiopia, and what it felt like to finally encounter the country he had only known through family stories.

And also explore the legacy of Emperor Haile Selassie - his Pan-Africanism, his relationships with African leaders, Ethiopia’s place in the global Black diaspora, and the complicated criticisms surrounding his reign.

And then there’s the story you probably haven’t heard before: how Bob Marley became involved in helping members of the Ethiopian royal family during the 1974 revolution.

Prince Eyoel also speaks about his work through Wax and Gold, his vision for preserving powerful Black stories, his marriage and Pan-African identity, and whether there is a future for African constitutional monarchy.
