🏥 Healthcare shouldn’t be HARD to navigate- yet it is.

The fine print. The bills. The insurance. Everything you need but can’t afford. Plus all the resources nobody tells you about.

Leeza Romanovski is here to make all of it make sense. An arts educator, organiser, longtime potter, and now Medical Social Worker, Leeza knows her way around the system. 🤓

At The Red Door, she’s offering Resource + Systems Support as an opportunity to learn how to work the healthcare system.

Helping demystify choosing insurance, financial fears, government benefits, and disability or elder care.

Supporting you in finding low-cost or free care, understanding what resources may be available to you, navigating insurance and debt, and even practicing how to communicate with providers so your concerns are taken seriously.

As Leeza puts it, healthcare in this country is deeply capitalistic, so why not use that? Find the loopholes, and insist on being treated like someone who matters.

Bring your questions, paperwork, frustrations, dead ends and learn that you have power too!

Or you can just come sit, release some frustration, and yes, she’ll gladly roll your smokeables while y’all talk. 🌀

🍃 🖊️ 🙏🏽 🔥
Yesterday we told you about the plate; today we introduce the ✨ MOURNING ROUTINE ✨

Beginning after Noon, the experience honours the workers lives which rarely align with office hours.

There is no expectation; this is a space to reconnect, and move through whatever you’re carrying in community, at your own pace. Every element designed to support regulation, collective care, and release.

🍃 You can make your way to the Herbalism Station, where you can create your own herbal blend from a curated selection of herbs while learning about their traditional uses from our facilitators.

🖊️ 📄 Put pen to paper during the Grief Release Ritual and name what you are ready to release. And if you choose, your notes, letters, memories, or burdens can be offered to a communal fire ritual, creating space for reflection, witnessing, and letting go.

🍽️ Then eat. Linger. Talk. Journal. Rest.

There is no agenda beyond presence. No expectation to perform, explain, or leave having magically “moved on.”

The space welcomes solitude and connection equally.

Sit a while with us (or alone if you prefer) and grieve. ♥️

Grief is what is left when love has nowhere to go. 💕
Our bodies forget to eat and become weary.

Sometimes we just go through the motions, and other times there are simply too many decisions to make.

Across Black communities, one response has repeatedly been practised and profound:

FEEDING PEOPLE 🍽️ ♥️

A Small Plate for Grief carries that into The Red Door.

Bringing a warm plate rooted in Black Southern foodways and the larger African diasporic traditions that shaped them.

🍞 Cornbread, a cornerstone of the Southern plate, soft, buttery, what was once intended to stretch a meal now sits at the centre of the plate, as everything gathers around it.

🫘 Black-eyed peas, nourishing, tender and almost meaty, loved on with time and attention.

🥬 Braised Collard Greens, cooked low and slow with aromatics, seasoned beautifully, soaking the cornbread in pot liquor. Every bite, savoury and rounded out with a soft earthiness.

🍠 Mashed Sweet potato, spiced to complement the season, warm and subtle — like a deep breath. The natural sweetness aiding the soft effortless bite of comfort.

🍑 Peach Cobbler, a southern staple,of buttery pastry accompanying spiced, juicy peaches stewed and macerated– sweet, familiar, and treat to end a simple meal.

🍵 Alongside the plate, we’ll be serving an herbal tea, as something warm to wrap your hands around.

The plate is intentionally modest, something that can be received while in conversation, writing, grieving, or simply resting.

Come share a small plate with us, rejoice in the privilege and joy of eating with community, right here at The Red Door 🚪

Food has long been one of the most profound languages of love for us all. At The Red Door, food is part of how we hold community. 🙌🏾

Historically, Breaking Bread has been a way to share resources, create income, and survive. Now we Break Bread to give workers a moment to breathe, sit, connect, laugh, and process the day. 🌅

Each $50 contribution helps by providing brunch, breakfast, our Final Supper, snacks, hydration, and hospitality for workers throughout the Unconference. 💕

You don’t need to be there to show you care. You can put something on the table from wherever you are.

Break bread with us. Because, simply put, a bitch gotta eat. 😜

Today we challenge the stigma.

S work is work, and all work deserves dignity, fairness, security and autonomy.

This International Equal Pay Day, The Red Door looks beyond the paycheck becuase Worker labor makes this 🌍 go round.

The Red Door believes that everyone deserves the chance to build a life, whatever their work looks like.

Economic justice means ensuring stigma never stands between a worker and their security. 💰

Stand with the community. Listen to their stories. Amplify their voices. 📢

Put money, resources and deeds in their hands.🫱🏿‍🫲🏾
