Congratulations to my brother @faketrung!! First solo photography show ✅. First photography book released and into the world ✅✅. First time stepping from out the background of so many people’s successes and into his own light… and immediately being recognized and repped by @blackrabbit.to (one of the hottest new galleries in the city… live from Regent Park, full circle, the community Trung originally grew up within) ✅✅✅

A backbone for so many creatives in the city and worldwide, as the founder and publisher of Contra Mag, Trung gave so many leading lights from the city their first start or an early platform. As an executive working in the music space @faketrung Trung has managed various careers to Grammy Nominations and JUNO wins - always prioritizing artistic integrity and quietly (for the most part lol) creating space for people to find their voice and step into their authentic selves as much as into excellence.

As my friend turned family of over 20yrs, he’s always been there. Always held me down. Challenged me. Shown me what friendship truly is.

Super proud to call you my brother. Super happy the world gets to see just how talented you are in your own light.

Closing today: Daniella Williams’ Origin at Black Rabbit (@blackrabbit.to)

A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of chatting with Daniella about this body of work and how her practice has evolved over the years.

Daniella Williams (@daniellawilliamsart) is a Canadian figurative painter based in Toronto. Her practice explores intimacy, observation, and the relationship between the body and its surroundings. Working primarily in oil, Williams draws from lived experience and everyday gestures to construct scenes that move between the familiar and the psychologically unresolved. Asking the viewer to consider their role as a voyeur within a private moment.

I’m excited to share this book alongside the exhibition of photos from over the years. Last November, I had an opportunity to go to Zanzibar TZ for a very special union. Along with the memories, this book came from this most incredible trip. A limited run of LATELY: ZANZIBAR will be available for purchase on opening night.

I had the opportunity to attend Daniella Williams’ artist talk at Black Rabbit Gallery, moderated by the incredible Emile Croning.

The conversation touched on Daniella’s creative transitions and her decision to step back and enter what she called her “cocoon phase.” Hearing her speak about her process was especially meaningful as someone who has followed her work for about five years.

You can truly see the growth, patience, and hard work in this beautiful collection.

Congratulations to Daniella, Emile, Benny and everyone at Black Rabbit Gallery for creating space for such an honest conversation.

New work for the Wedge Collection: 'Abundance', 2026 by emerging artist Daniella Williams @daniellawilliamsart, part of 'Origin' – the inaugural solo artist show at Black Rabbit Gallery @blackrabbit.to, a new space and artist incubator in Toronto's Regent Park, an initiative by local artist Benny Bing @bennybing.

Daniella will be in conversation with curator Emilie Croning @_emiliecro_ of @emc.contemporary in the gallery space, this Saturday, September 26th at 2pm.

Black Rabbit Gallery @blackrabbit.to presents Origin, a solo exhibition by Toronto-based Canadian figurative painter Daniella Williams @daniellawilliamsart, opening September 10, 2026.

Turning toward the natural world, Origin considers what might emerge when the body is released from the pressures of being seen and the figure is no longer defined in isolation from its surroundings. Across the exhibition, figures move through open spaces, shared moments, and natural environments, becoming increasingly immersed in the landscapes they inhabit.

Origin marks Black Rabbit Gallery’s first solo artist presentation.

Daniella Williams: Origin is on view September 10 – October 8, 2026.
