This #BlackHistoryMonth🖤, we’re celebrating the communities making a difference by:
🌱Improving access to good food
🌱Nurturing food empathy
🌱Reminding us of the power we hold when we come together. 💚
Today, we’re spotlighting @BlackRootz__, project by The Ubele Initiative and the UK’s first Black-led food-growing enterprise, championing food sovereignty and justice for People of Colour (POC) across the UK.

Through community-led food growing, Black Rootz is helping people reconnect with the land, build knowledge and work towards a fairer, more inclusive food system in the UK.

The Big City Bug Hunt 🐛🪲🕷️🐞

This summer I was a Critter Consultant (best job title ever!) for this years Big City Bug Hunt!

This is a London-wide citizen science campaign designed to record and celebrate invertebrate life in urban food-growing spaces. What a way to engage local communities with nature right?

I facilitated sessions at some incredible spots that really demonstrate the power and impact of community spaces.

2-4 @camberwelltrianglegardeners a resident powered green space in south east London founded by the force of nature @brixtonhousewifeinthegarden . A previously disused public lawn turned thriving community garden and allotment.

5-7 @ccacamden a flourishing community association in the heart of Camden Town. Boasting a site that offers inclusive spaces and engaging activities supporting learning for all ages.

8-10 @deencityfarm an urban farm in the second greenest borough in London, Merton! It provides the community with a chance to learn about the rural environment and animal husbandry.

11-13 @wolveslanecentre a horticultural centre and community food growing hub nestled within Wood Green, North London. It’s not just about plants here, it’s also about bringing diverse communities together to learn, connect and cultivate opportunity.

A huge thank you to @capital_growth for getting me involved and the opportunity to witness real community and environmental stewardship.

What if the knowledge we need isn’t new at all… but something we already knew? 🌱

At our last Black Growth Community Day, @gogrowwithlove helped us reconnect with Afroecology. Ancestral knowledge rooted in land, food, community and reciprocity.

From seed saving and companion planting to storytelling, sharing food and learning alongside the next generation, the day was a reminder that we are not separate from nature. We are part of it. 🌍

This isn’t new knowledge. It’s knowledge we’re remembering.
