Stunned by the definition these Blackwing pencils gave to my subtractive graphite drawing! Such a HUGE thank you to both @blackwing and @thecompoundgallery for helping me take this piece to the next level.

Amazing oil tan leather found its way to us. We made 7 valet trays and 5 pencil cases big enough for @blackwing pencils. Oil tan leather is incredible. It a waxy resistant leather to the elements that creates a terrific patina. This is a limited drop so once they are gone, they are gone. #oiltan #oiltanleather #madeintopanga #humanmade #valet

With all the hype for #dune Messiah rising, I thought it would be a good time to try my hand at a version of Paul Atreides. #blackwing602 and #blackwingsoft

Episode 6: Military Animals 🐘

Throughout the month of October I am combining my two biggest loves, printmaking and museums, by carving stamps of my favourite artifacts so that I can share their stories with you.

Besides horses, I don’t often think about animals who were conscripted to serve in human conflicts. That’s in part why I was so surprised to see this suit of 17th century elephant armour in the Royal Armouries Museum @royalarmouriesmuseum in Leeds.

This armour is both useful and beautiful. It is made up of layered metal plates, some of which are embossed with images. While I was carving all of the tiny notches to represent the plates I was thinking about how labour intensive the process of building (and eventually restoring and dusting) this armour would have been. Clearly this piece was made with a lot of thought and care. I wonder what life was like for the elephant who wore it?
