Baltimore-based and focused β€” Cultivating self-determination through Black land and food sovereignty.

Brazil is no one’s backyard. Not Trump’s. Not the U.S. or Israel’s.

Over the past several months, Trump, the right, and corporations based in the U.S. and around the world have been exerting pressure on Brazil to promote the election of far-right candidate Flavio Bolsonaro over the Workers Party incumbent President Lula.

Bolsonaro is the son of former president Jair Bolsonaro and has received support from the global far right who intend to roll back the social programs and environmental protections that Lula’s administration has delivered. Bolsonaro threatens an end to Brazilian sovereignty and will hand Brazil over to the U.S. and foreign corporate interests.

All eyes on Brazil and their upcoming election on October 25! The U.S. must stay out of Brazil’s democratic processes.

Today, @mayorbmscott signed the Community Healthy Food Access Act into law!

No family in Baltimore should have to take two buses just to buy fresh vegetables. This law creates the Healthy Food Priority Area Grant Program, which will put real dollars behind the neighborhood grocers, co-ops, farmers' markets, and mobile vendors bringing fresh, affordable food to our communities.

It also gives residents a seat at the table, with annual listening sessions on pricing, products, and store operations.

Thank you to @mayorbmscott, my colleagues on the Council, and our partners at @blackyield, @blackchurchfsn, the Department of Planning, and BDC.

Still reeling from the magic of this past weekend ✨the healing power of art in real time! It was beyond an honor to be one of the openers for my beloved @unique.theword for her one-night-only sold out show Old Baybe!! The whole production was such an ode to all the things that make us human πŸ₯Ή Watching my bb work always leaves me in awe 😭 After delivering such a raw and heartfelt theatrical memoir, she was right back up at dawn making sure everything was good for day 2 of the festival πŸ™ŒπŸ½ I be feeling like dang I better not complain! 🫠

It was also a gift to witness my own evolution as a writer through this co-feature process. Thank you to everyone who showed love to my piece β€” a deeply personal ode to the complexities of my origins. Someone shared that the light reflecting on me looked like angel wings from where they were sitting, and that felt so real because I could feel my honorable ancestors (known and unknown) supporting me through the writing and the life lived that led me to that moment. Swipe to the end for a snippet πŸ’œ

Saturday, I started off farming w @blackyield then had the honor of witnessing the opening of @hopeandfaith.art’s exhibition β€œYou Can Always Come Home” which was was deeply emotional. Real tears the heart, soul, and intention poured into each piece is undeniable. Please experience it while you can at @creativealliancebaltimore.

Sunday I celebrated the living legacy of @abutheflutemaker at Gallery Reimagined β€” the perfect close to such an epic weekend. His DIY instruments are a Baltimore staple, and it was beautiful seeing him receive his flowers while still here πŸ’ŽπŸ’

My biggest reflection: in a season of sensory overload and nonstop events, it’s easy to move from one thing to the next, but there is power in the pause. If you read this far, you a real oneπŸ’œ
