Friday night at @the.fountain.room at @bottleworksindy with my wife, where we began with dirty ’tinis and blue cheese olives. We like our date nights classy and our martinis slightly scandalous.

We shared the Fountain Wedge, though a few bites in, that decision deserved renegotiation. An artisan romaine heart dressed with Maytag blue cheese crumbles, Old Major jowl bacon, cherry tomatoes, red onion, chives and buttermilk dressing. Crisp greens, smoky bacon, creamy dressing and blue cheese with something to say. This is what happens when a salad understands it’s dining in a steakhouse. It may technically be the responsible part of dinner, but it certainly doesn’t behave that way.

The wedge deserved its close-up. And possibly its own reservation.

For the main event, we each had a filet with house butter. We’re happy to share a life; steak requires separate plates. Broccolini with romesco, Fresno peppers and toasted almonds rounded things out—and gave us something green to mention when recounting the evening.

A lovely Friday night with my favorite dinner companion. Blue cheese appeared in both the drinks and the salad. We admire consistency.

Born from Japan’s traditional coffeehouse culture, these intimate listening rooms became places where the record was the main event. Owners collected hard-to-find vinyl, obsessed over their hi-fi systems, and created rooms where you could sit down, order a drink, and actually listen. No skipping tracks. No shuffling. No algorithm deciding what came next. Just a great record, played through a great system, in a room full of people who could appreciate all of those elements coming together.

That idea stuck with us.

The Pretender is our take on the listening lounge: vintage equipment, carefully chosen records, good food, strong drinks, low lights, and a little less hurry.

Come in, grab a drink, and stay for Side B. 🥃💿

The Brie brûlée was one of the best we’ve ever had, and trying the duck confit pasta for the first time was well worth it. Every flavor and texture worked together perfectly!

This Japanese-inspired hi-fi listening lounge in downtown Noblesville was designed for immersive listening, with music taking center stage instead of simply playing in the background. It’s intimate, relaxed and such a fun setting for a girls’ night!

Had the pleasure of visiting @the.pretender.hifi for a little preview and it did not disappoint! In fact, having a hi-fi lounge that serves a proper Japanese highball just a few blocks from my house is real game-changer.
