Lamin Fofana, Preludes: To Become Liquid
Ecole du soir Workroom
Saturday, October 17, 2026
Doors open: 6.30 PM
Performance: 7.00 PM – 10 PM
RSVP: workroom@ecoledusoir.org

Lamin Fofana’s @lamin.mp3 new album Corps Perdu is out October 16th on Shelter Press @shelter_press .

“Corps Perdu presents an introspective journey with no return, and as such is full of omens of all kinds.” Across ten tracks, Fofana creates a shifting landscape of melodies, rhythms, field recordings and dense processing, inspired in part by Aimé Césaire’s Corps Perdu and the writings of Edouard Glissant, Sylvia Wynter, Fred Moten and others.

We will have copies available for purchase.

On Saturday, October 17 at 7pm, École du soir is pleased to host Preludes: To Become Liquid, a performance by Lamin Fofana @lamin.mp3 . It takes place as a listening and collective reading program within an immersive sound environment informed and inspired by the reading, the density and the richness of the concepts, histories and possibilities of Black Studies. The evening will mark the release of Corps Perdu, Fofana’s new album emerging from his ongoing engagement with the relationship between sound and text.

In To Become Liquid, Fofana offers a multisensory listening space in which performance, collective reading, and open dialogue converge, with the aim of generating an environment of critical reverie. Throughout the evening, pages or fragments from works by seminal historians, poets, and theorists including W. E. B. Du Bois, Sylvia Wynter, and Aimé Césaire are circulated among the audience. Everyone is invited to read aloud at any moment, and to cultivate an active, collaborative space that resists disengaged modes of reception and fosters instead a shared and attentive participation.

The performance is co-presented with Lamin Fofana’s record label BLACK STUDIES @blast.rtf , and it launches Fofana’s and BLACK STUDIES inaugural residency at École du Soir Workroom, playing host to mutual collaborations between Fofana and École du soir that will extend into convening, production, programming, and learning experiments.

Please email workroom@ecoledusoir.org to RSVP.

I’m on @nts_radio for a collaborative episode of sir Lamin Fofana’s @lamin.mp3 show « Black Studies » (@blast.rtf). Amid snippets of our WhatsApp conversations, I present some favourites: Cecil Taylor, Florian Hecker, Emahoy Tsege Mariam Gebru, Badalamenti, some mind-bending singeli, and Akira Yamaoka with Silent Hill 2. Thanks to Lamin infinite insights I also found out that Mary Lou Williams, referencing Cecil Taylor, described the avant-garde as « black magic & confusion », which I’ll be reclaiming from now on. The show is online, tune in via the link in bio.

BLACK STUDIES debut on @nts_radio tonight.

6pm NYC, 12am Amsterdam.

Another approach to radio-making. Integrating WhatsApp & Voice Notes. Friends and collaborators send in drops, voice notes, and whatnot. I stitch the pieces together. This collaborative approach I hope makes for intriguing radio.

On this episode, I’m joined by Mohammed Tatour, an Amsterdam-based Palestinian artist. We contemplate Adania Shibli’s Minor Detail, language, and untranslatability. Special selections featuring music by Taymour x Bareetlblad, Kiss Facility, HAAi with James Massiah, Wadada Leo Smith, Vijay Iyer, Surya Botofasina, and more.
