A new bike hub is coming to downtown Denver. 🚲

Construction has begun on a new public bike hub at Plaza of the Americas near 16th Street and Wewatta.

The project will transform the existing plaza with new landscaping, gathering spaces, and a secure bike hub designed for commuters and visitors. The open-air pavilion will provide secure bicycle parking, public bike rentals, and feature a custom perforated concrete facade that gives the structure its unique architectural identity.

According to the project team, the redevelopment has been nearly 20 years in the making and is expected to open this fall.

The bike hub will provide secure bicycle parking for commuters and visitors while also offering public bike rentals. The open-air pavilion is wrapped in a custom perforated concrete facade that lets in natural light.

The project is about more than just bike parking. Plaza of the Americas is also being redesigned with new landscaping, seating areas, gathering spaces, and improved pedestrian connections to create a more welcoming public space.

Turns out making a curved desk out of a single slab of live-edge wood is about as hard as it sounds. But we love a good challenge.

We used age-old cooperage techniques combined with modern CNC technology to mill individual ‘staves’. Held together with tension bolts, each piece was shaped to fit the radius of the curve and account for the wood’s natural expansion and contraction over time.

Underneath you can see concrete panels we cast and colored to mimic the look and feel of basalt rock that also account for the curve.
