A #latergram because last night was a late one. The @mica_abfs was absolutely fabulous as always. The creative standard was so high and this year was especially lush with Interdisciplinary work that combined garments, performance, and in some cases dance, sound, and animation. One really powerful throughline was the way many of these designers thought about material memory and the history of the materials they chose to use. There were also many reflections on being true to yourself and doing so in community. The power of community was not only part of the themes of the performances but also on full display in the ways that the casts and stage crew worked together to realize an exceptionally complex show. Congratulations to director @anahita.arun and assistant directors @ljwuzhere.pdf and @ladybu6_ on an outstanding show! 1-2) @zoebriellep imagined a beautiful dance performance based on Appalachian folk tales and garments made with repurposed everyday materials 3-4) @maia.janih.jpg was inspired by Anne Lowe's work and created a contemporary bridal collection with elements of ballroom. 5-8) @mugdha_nath combined animation, Indian classical dance, and stunning garments made with reverence for their often handwoven materials to reflect on the nine emotional states described in the Natya Shastra, an ancient Sanskrit text the performing arts. 9) @juneplumphoto explored Pan-Africanism with material like braids and cotton rope, and references to Baltimore's Black butterfly. 10-12) Simone Isip and Loulie Rossmassler in collaboration with @bmorefreetheater reimagined Antigone as a terrifying game of Monopoly where players can either play by the authoritarian rule or risk it all to act morally and in community with one another. 13-14) @jaydeebird_'s beautiful meditation on finding yourself and staying true to your heart combined life performance with film and stop motion animation. 15-16) @lipssooonasty threw it back to the 90s and early 2000s with a joyful performance and clothes that nodded to unsung hip hop stylists like Misa Hylton and Dapper Dan. 17-19) @annies_artportfolio staged a revolution with upsycled materials like soda can tabs and airline blankets.

🌀Introducing...Simone Isip ‘26 & Loulie Rossmassler ‘27 and their collaborative collection MONOPOLY, Antigone: A Tragedy🌀 Written and directed by Ahlam Khamis, MONOPOLY, Antigone: A Tragedy is performed in collaboration with the @bmorefreetheater, a growing community-based political theater troupe based in Baltimore. This performance features live sound by Ethan Reinking🎸 View the designer’s individual artist bio’s in comments! - - - 🍀”Set in the Monopoly world where hierarchy, exploitation, and corruption are fundamental, our collection reclaims the original purpose of the game [The Landlord’s Game, Lizzie Magie]. The performance follows the plot of the Greek tragedy Antigone, a story of conviction and defiance of law. With the characters doubling as monopoly pieces, the two worlds collide in a reflection of our own hierarchical system where justice is absent. In a moment where morals and law come face to face, a decision is made that disrupts the social contract. Would you dare defy the law for justice? Or will you keep your tongue in leash.” - - - ‼️‼️Learn more about this performance on April 17th & 18th at 7pm @ Falvey Auditorium
