Leap of Faith disturbs memory, rousing a retrospective mourning of youthful abandon: to let go instead of holding on, to allow the leap into unburdened freedom. The exhibition draws on the ingrained belief in a higher power as our navigator. A comforting mediator we submit to in the hope of a favourable outcome, something to trust when nothing else will hold.

Process-based work leaves permanent imprints, undergoing an ethereal treatment, where tangible forms escape the chokehold of an ignorant, stylised utopia. Memories are etched, materialised, only to disappear again – something so fragile pressed into the permanence of hardened material. A sentimentality of simpler times, armoured. Protective as the walls of an industrial fortress.

These works evoke the ceremonial protection, obstruction and destruction of memory in various guises, unfolding into a procession of the artificially earthly, where the familiar falls to black. Burn the fence, ride the horse, lay with a loved one, the gate is open.

Leap of Faith shifts between the artist’s individual and shared themes, each circling this otherworldly pull and the common impulse to kneel before divinity.
