For his birthday, I took Bob to see Willie Nelson and Neil Young. Neil Young is the reason young Bob picked up a guitar. Bob last saw Neil Young in concert in 1988!

Great seats! And yes I bought merch. 😅

At the age of 93, Willie Nelson put on a great show. And I had fun singing along!

Proud papa looking on - Micah Nelson is 🔥🔥🔥. And I particularly loved this song - Everything Is Bullshit (a love song).

Neil Young and The Chrome Hearts! 🩶 I was especially thrilled when he sang Harvest Moon (that I did not record cuz I was in the moment)!

Encore was outstanding ending with Rockin’ in the Free World and all of us chanting along “take America back”

How is soy sauce made?

I recently visited @moromishoyu to learn how @bob.florence makes whole-bean soy sauce using traditional Japanese techniques and local New England ingredients.

If you’re a chef or want a bottle to try at home it’s well worth it, nobody else in the world is making soy sauce like this.

Bob, @goudatalks, @madebymusashi and I also stopped at @nanasmystic to try the Moromi Maple Shaken Espresso. I also adore the Sweet & Salty Shoyu scoop from @mysticdrawbridgeicecream. I’m convinced soy sauce has a place on every menu 🫘

Omg! @bob.florence and I had the most incredible meal to celebrate our 28th anniversary @claudinepvd! Thank you to chefs @josh_finger_ @margaret_shea and the truly spectacular kitchen and front of house for an experience we will remember for always! Every dish was a masterpiece showcasing flavor and creativity! The service is top-shelf! Seriously, if you appreciate excellent food you must get to Claudine in Providence RI! (Also, they use @moromishoyu!😊)

Happy anniversary @bob.florence - 28 years! We’ve lived in 3 countries, 4-1/2 states, and have traveled the world but Home is always with you! ❤️ I love you and here’s to many many more years together!

Guess what???? @mysticdrawbridgeicecream in Old Mystic is open and I am soooo happy! Guess who will be getting frequent treats and coffee during writing time? 🥰 It’s the same delicious fresh ice cream (cones and pints), friendly service, and amazing pastries and coffee! Plus local pantry goodies like @moromishoyu ! 🤩 Check for hours!

All the places we like to eat every time we return to Huntington Beach.
1. Sugar Shack for the best breakfasts (I always get the Kepler)
2. In-and-Out (of course). A note: so clean w truly friendly workers
3. and 4. Meiji Seimen for the best soba in CA (maybe the entire US) and yummy desserts!
5. Din Tai Fung (I first had their xaio long bao when I lived in Shanghai in 2005-2007)
7. Kappo Honda for family style Japanese small plates
8. Uncle Tetsu This is a relatively new place for us. Japanese style soufflé cheesecake. I can’t have cheesecake so I get their matcha mochi cookie.
9. Tokyo Central For groceries I bring back to CT but also lunch to go!
10. Superb Donut On our daily morning walks to the beach Bob and I often stop here. We’ve been getting fresh yummy donuts here for almost 3 decades. The mom is now 97 and still in the back making donuts!
11. Always ramen. This time at Hiro Ramen in Long Beach!

While back home in CA, I made sure to visit @ghibli_dongurirep_usa, official Studio Ghibli pop-up there till the end of the year. And while we had just been to Ghibli Park last year, I still managed to find a couple of goodies. At this mall there were a plethora of fun anime/kawaii shops that Caitlin and I had to go into! @bob.florence and my mom were less enthused and spent time chatting instead. 😊 Scroll to see a few of my treasures!🛍️
