We went to Kyrg instead of bali and these are the hidden gems of Kyrgistan

@jidhumg

I thought I was going to Kyrgyzstan to photograph mountains.

But I came back with something much more valuable.

Memories of people.

Because maybe that's the best part of travelling…

It's not always the places you see.

It's the people you see them with.

We drove for hours through roads that barely felt like roads.

We walked for kilometres with heavy bags on our backs. Some time 24 kms

Almost 15 kilos of camera gear with me.

There were moments when our bodies were exhausted.

Moments when the weather turned against us.

Moments when the journey felt much harder than we had imagined.

But that's when something beautiful happens.

You stop travelling as individuals.

You start looking after each other.

Someone walks slower so you don't have to walk alone.

Someone reaches out a hand.

Someone makes a joke when everyone is too tired to smile.

And somehow…

you keep going.

That's what I love about travelling with friends.

You don't just share the beautiful moments.

You share the difficult ones too.

And years later, those difficult moments often become the stories you laugh about the most.

After all those roads.

All those hikes.

All that exhaustion…

there we were.

Standing together.

Looking at mountains that felt almost impossible to reach.

And for a moment, nobody cared about the photographs.

Nobody cared about how tired we were.

We just stood there…

together.

And I think that's what travel gives you.

Not just memories of places…

but memories of the people you became those versions of yourself with.

Years from now, I may forget the exact road we took.

I may forget how cold it was.

I may even forget some of the mountains.

But I don't think I'll ever forget that feeling…

of looking around,

seeing my friends standing beside me,

and knowing that we made it here together.

Maybe that's the real destination.

Not the place you reach…

but the people who stand beside you when you finally get there.

After two days of driving, crossing two military checkpoints and passing through landscapes that seemed to stretch endlessly, we finally reached this surreal corner of the world, just a stone’s throw from the Chinese border.
You can see @navaneeth_unnikrishnan standing next to me. And to truly understand the sheer scale of this landscape, look at the four tiny dots near the river- @bunch_of_pixels, @jidhumg, @be.rizzed and @bombaymalayali.
Perhaps one of the most beautiful landscapes my eyes have ever seen.
I stood there for a long time, looking at the river disappearing between the mountains. Somewhere in that vastness, the four of them had almost disappeared into the landscape. It made me think of how strange our sense of scale is. From where I stood, they were barely visible. And yet, each of those tiny dots carried an entire world with them-memories, worries, people they loved, places they had left behind, and lives unfolding somewhere beyond those mountains.
Against a landscape that had probably taken millions of years to become what it was, all of that seemed impossibly small.
And yet, perhaps that is the strange thing about being human.
We are tiny enough to disappear into a landscape, but somehow large enough to carry entire worlds within us.

What's your dream travel spot?

We hit up Central Asia last year. Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan are both amazing. The scenery changes every 10 minutes; you'll see everything from deserts to snowy mountains, salt flats, and green fields. It's all there. Here are some snippets of our unforgattable journey..

What is your story behind the shots ??

The part of landscape photography you don’t see in the final frame.

Our days often begin before sunrise. Sometimes we wake up at 3 AM, hike for hours, and reach a viewpoint hoping for that one perfect sunrise only to find the sky completely covered.

We wait for the right weather. Sometimes it snows. Sometimes a storm hits. Sometimes the wind is so strong that we can barely stand.

And then there are the things you never plan for.

Flat tyres. Engine problems. Getting stuck in the middle of nowhere. Health issues. No food. Endless hikes. Sleepless nights. Getting lost. Changing plans at the last minute.

There are days when we travel hundreds of kilometres and come back with nothing.

But there are also moments when everything suddenly comes together the light breaks through the clouds, the mountains glow, and for a few seconds, you realise why you went through all of it.

Those moments are what you see in the final photograph.

What you don’t see is everything that happened before pressing the shutter.

These are some of the behind the scenes moments and struggles of being a landscape photographer.

The uncertainty. The exhaustion. The failures. The unexpected adventures.

You can’t always capture these experiences in a photograph or explain them through words.

But they are a part of every frame we create.
