Patsy Ann Knebles, my grandmother, is a martini-sluggin, brunch-going, guttural laughing woman with a wicked eye for style. She’s got champagne and Chanel No. 5 running through her veins. Edge. Fun. This Louis bag isn’t just any bag — it’s hers, and boy has it seen some good times. Patsy spent her working life trekking through Canada’s harsh winter snow clutching that bag to get from bus to boutique where she worked and thrived well into her eighties. She often went to Paris as a buyer. Patsy doesn’t give a damn about fashion – what she knows is style, and that is of the stuff you can’t make up or learn, you just have it or you don’t, and she did. She gave me that bag about a decade ago and I swear to this day, you can still get a whiff of Chanel No. 5 on the leather handles. Suppose this is my version of a worn in baseball glove — sacred, timeless, trustworthy, eternal.

I love receiving photos of well-worn El Paso Babas. Sometimes, I even spot 'em out in the wild.

We've been putting them out into the world for over a year now... 2,844 pairs to be exact. On your feet, or off your feet, all over the globe. We've mailed pairs as far as Hong Kong & Japan, and as near as Hudson, NY and Hudson Street.

They're not easy to make, nor is that undyed, vegetable tanned saddle leather easy to come by. But the effort is worth it, and the proof is in all of the beautiful images and amazing notes we've received from you. "My favorite pair you've ever made," is a common refrain.

SCOUTED // @communitiemarfa was our first friend in Marfa. Kate would always welcome us with open arms and has introduced me to so many other amazing business owners. Hearing her “I bought a business in Marfa, Texas in the middle of a pandemic” story is something that gives me chills every time I am lucky enough to be around to hear it when someone asks. I am so inspired by her sense of business and bravery!! Communities is in the center of the city and I cannot go inside without buying something. Kate’s hats are stunning and I have several. She has everything from Stetson, Charlie 1 Horse, her original straw line and many more. Then you have the clothing lines and other small items that keeps me wondering in her store for hours. Big big big fan of @communitiemarfa - make sure you visit next time you are in the Far West.
