Had a terrific time last evening at a reception for the John Carter Brown Library, followed by a lecture on Thomas Paine and "Common Sense".

I took the opportunity to wear my Thornhill tie by Aklasu. Created in collaboration with Matt Spaiser.

I am, of course, not photogenic. Smiling apparently doesn't help.

My friend John Breznen at David Harvey Jewelers in Darien took the photos of me. With what he had to work with, he did the best he could.

For the second time since it arrived a few weeks ago, I wore my new Fears' "Silver Noir". A beautiful watch. It feels amazing on the wrist.

As a gift to attendees the JCB gave out cleaning cloths for glasses. One side has the spines of their various editions of "Common Sense". The reverse speaks for itself.

Afterwards, I went to Amaranth, on East 62nd, for dinner. A superb meal, as usual.

We made this second release for those who missed Thornhill the first time. Created with Bobby Morelli of Matched Perfectly and Matt Spaiser of Bond Suits, it brings a shared appreciation for classic menswear and cinema into a tie made to be worn.

The response from owners of the first release meant a great deal to us. We’ve shared a few of their words here.

Today is James Bond Day. It’s the anniversary of Dr. No’s premiere on October 5, 1962, when Sean Connery first stepped onto the screen and the modern spy thriller, as we know it, began.

Ian Fleming didn’t just write a spy; he built an archetype. Style. Class. The kind of adventure that made the world feel larger, sharper, and more dangerous all at once. Every writer in this genre is working in his shadow, whether they admit it or not.

Maybe literary spies are an echo of that same idea, that a person can be pulled into a world bigger than themselves and have to decide, in real time, who they’re going to be inside it.

Last month I went to a James Bond fan even themed around the 1979 Bond film Moonraker in Newtown, PA, a place we’ve had many events before. This was hosted by @thebondexperience and he gave away a bunch of goodies like clothes, books, magazines, toys, collectibles, posters and artwork. I took a ton of stuff to add to my collection. The focus of the event was of course a screening of Moonraker at the Newtown Theater, the oldest running theater in the country. This was my second time seeing a Bond film there, we had a screening of Thunderball in August of last year. Like last year with Thunderball, this was an upscaled version of Moonraker in 4K with updated sound as well. It looked and sounded great and it was my first time seeing Moonraker on a big screen. There’s something different about watching a Bond film with other fans because we get all the details and little jokes and celebratory moments. A lot of people dressed up with their versions of the different outfits Roger Moore wore in the film and various other characters like Jaws, Dolly and the main villain Hugo Drax. After the film we headed down the street to Temperance House, a historic Inn and tavern where we usually gather after events we have out there and some people stay there. This was a fun time and sharing these moments with great friends makes it that much better. #jamesbond #007 #moonraker #rogermoore #jamesbondfan

A NEW BEGINNING.

We began by writing a song inspired by the world of Bond.

We ended up telling a story about being human.

Our film begins with an eye and a gun.

It ends with the eye of a child and the Earth.

Between them are 72 frames.

An agent meets an enemy.

The enemy becomes a mirror.

A man meets a woman.

The weapon is left behind.

A child is born.

And for the first time, he looks at the world not as territory to defend, conquer or control…

but simply as life.

Then comes the final conversation:

“I came to end you.”

“And found you were me.”

“Then who am I?”

“Choose.”

A heartbeat.

“I am.”

A child’s first breath.

“Alive.”

Silence.

“No other.”

“Only life.”

And that is how NO OTHER was born.

Not an official Bond theme.
Not an attempt to rewrite the canon.

Our musical letter to the James Bond universe about what its next chapter could become.

WHAT IF THE VILLAINS WERE MESSENGERS?

Then something unexpected happened while we were creating NO OTHER.

We began looking at the entire Bond mythology from the opposite direction.

What if every person Bond believed was simply an enemy was also something else?

A mirror.

A challenge.

An unwitting messenger of transformation.

Fear taught him courage.

Betrayal taught him discernment.

Loss revealed the value of love.

Death revealed the value of life.

In the world of NO OTHER, the villain does not suddenly become “good.”

Evil is not justified.

Cruelty is not made sacred.

Instead, something much more human happens:

we discover that even an encounter with darkness can be transformed into consciousness.

Every enemy forced Bond to go further.

Until eventually there was nowhere left to go…

except within.

And perhaps that was the real mission all along.
