POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Ken Russell and Oliver Reed worked on many films besides THE DEVILS.

For example, there was 1973’s TOMMY, in which Reed played Uncle Frank. By then, Oliver Reed had developed a certain reputation... he talks about this reputation on Parkinson’s chat show as part of the promotion for TOMMY.

“He is a Gothic hero in the living, lusting flesh. He smolders... a mobile furnace.”

The full interview with the Boozy Ram is worth watching and can be found online. 🐏🐏🐏🍻🍻🍻

Check out the @furtherreeding podcast episode on TOMMY! Link in bio.

*Please note that this video is reversed because Ollie’s scar was on the other side of his face in real life.*

Before THE DEVILS, there was… THE SYSTEM.

Starring the dreamy Oliver Reed, asking personal questions like…

“Are you a virgin?”

🥵🥵🥵🥵

THE SYSTEM, from 1964, was directed by Michael Winner (before he became infamous for DEATH WISH) and shot by Nicolas Roeg (DON’T LOOK NOW, THE MAN WHO FELL TO EARTH).

Check out my very FIRST appearance on "𝘽𝙚𝙙𝙚 & 𝙏𝙧𝙚𝙫 𝙫𝙨 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝘽𝙄𝙂 𝘼𝙋𝙋𝙇𝙀!" The podcast where hosts Bede Jermyn and Trevor Snyder discuss various films set in New York City from the 1970s to the 1990s!

For the 8th episode of the series, the prestigious hosts, fellow guest Doug Tilley and myself dive heavily into the unflinching 1972 crime/blaxploitation (?) film, "Across 110th Street!"

Today we said goodbye to Akira. We have known for some time that the end was coming, and we arranged for the vet to come to our house and help her let go in her own bed.

Last night she seemed more energetic and even got mad at a raccoon. I started to have creeping thoughts about postponing, even though I knew in my heart that it was time.

Our plan was to wheel her down to Millennium Park and spend her last morning sharing a scone and looking out over the lake. Despite her strength last night, this morning she could not even get up to walk. One final, painful gift that let us know we were making the right choice.

She was ready, and she knew that I never would be.

The end was very peaceful, and even though the grief is crushing, knowing that she will never feel pain again and that we no longer have to worry about her suffering gives us some small measure of relief.

It hurts so deeply, but that's because she mattered so much to us. I don't know who I am without her and, in some ways, finding out feels scary.

We have created a little online memorial page for her, and we would love it if you shared your stories about her and any pictures or videos you might have from over the years.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out with kind words and love, and to everyone who made the time to come and see Akira before she left us. It means so much to us that you thought of us as good parents to her, and that you wanted to spend some time with her while you still could. We tried to give her everything that was in our power to give, but we always had doubts.

We loved her so much. And we hope she knew that.

COME SEE AKIRA!

Friends, the time has come. On Thursday afternoon we are going to let Akira go as her mobility and pain have become unmanageable.

On Sunday the 9th, Doug and I plan to wheel her down to Millennium Park and hang out from around 2pm-5pm or so (weather and Akira patience permitting). We're going to buy her an ice cream and let her hang in the shade and walk around if she feels up to it. If you'd like to come at any point and say hi/bye, please do.

1. Yes, you can bring her a snack (she might reject it)

2. She does not want to see your dog. She hates them.

3. No comments about how she could have more time. This is a decision we have made with the full support of her vet team.

4. I will definitely cry at some point while you're there. I cry a lot these days.

Feel free to message me for my phone number if you need any other details! If you want to see her but Sunday doesn't work for you please reach out and if we can make time we certainly will.

HAPPY 14th BIRTHDAY, AKIRA! I'd be lying if I said that Doug and I thought she'd make it this far. Since we found out in 2024 that her liver was in bad shape, we've considered every day a bonus. In the last week, her arthritis has significantly limited her mobility and we're doing all we can to support her while always considering quality over quantity of life. Realistically, this is the last birthday we'll be celebrating with her.

She's been so lucky to have so many people around her who love her despite the fact that she's the worst kind of diva.

Kristen and Riley, who have always loved her even when she dug holes in their garden and was a menace.

Candace, who takes care of her so Doug and I can have a few days off to go to the city or an evening engagement.

Hasan and Eva, who don't mind when she makes it hard to run the store because she lies right across the aisle.

The whole Home Hardware crew who tolerate her constant demands for treats.

All the folks at my office who seem charmed by her constant screaming and naughtiness.

All the vendors at the Peterborough Farmers Market who don't mind that she totally ruins the morning vibe with howling and general dramatics.

Our wonderful neighbors who claim to not be able to hear her singing.

The doctors and staff at Brealey Drive Animal Hospital who have not only given her the most amazing care but who have cared for Doug and I in our saddest moments and who have literally cried with us while we have tried to navigate this.

Her many friends in town who always stop to pet her and reassure her that, despite my protests, she is a good girl.

I'm sure I'm missing so many people, but that speaks to how loved she has been over these years. We're so grateful to everyone. Akira feels middling about all of it, but if you have a treat, she could get excited. 💜💜💜
