Bonnie MacRae with the hardest lesson in climate change. On the first day of Spring, with warmer weather round the corner, this director’s cut of @bonmacre’s film for @climatemajorityproject is a reminder of the pressures surrounding climate education today - for both teachers and students navigating an increasingly complex landscape. The film dramatises the internal noise of modern classrooms, where scientific reality, outside influence, misinformation, professional duty, and human emotion collide - often leaving everyone searching for clarity. Thanks to everyone involved. New work for @refugecharity @bonmacrae’s latest film ‘Home is Where the Hurt Is’, was made with @revolt.global for the domestic abuse charity @refugecharity. This estate agent tour with a twist raises awareness around the sad truth that statistically, the most dangerous place for a woman is her own home. Launched in the run up to International Women’s Day, the film was made with a 95% female crew, featuring actor @fizzyflea. Following IWD, the campaign went to the Houses of Parliament and asked members of the public to sign an open letter calling on Sir Keir Starmer to plug the funding shortfall in domestic abuse accommodation services (£55.5m per year). SHINY NEW STARS - LS Productions played host to the first-ever Scotland and the North Shiny Showcase last Thursday, and boy, did our local talent come out in force. With Shiny offering a route into the industry for new and underrepresented talent, it was inspiring to see the work of bold and authentic new voices, reflecting the distinct regional identities of Scotland and the North. The evening featured a curated selection of short-form work from emerging directors across a range of genres, including commercials, music videos, spec ads, documentary, drama, and animation. All films screened were under five minutes and selected for their originality, craft, and creative voice. Here’s a list of all the winners, sponsors and prizes: 🌟 Alia Ghafar - Short Film ‘Hen Do’ - Prize from LS Productions - Career mentoring meeting with Kojo Abban 🌟 Stuart Armstrong - Short Film ‘LAY-BY’ - Prize from Creative Outpost - Free Colour Grade 🌟 Iain Simpson - Tunnocks ‘What’s Your Excuse’ - Prize from the Berry - Career Mentoring with Andy Daly 🌟 Kate Hammer - BBC Short Stuff ‘Bike Lane Austen’ - Prize from Global Production Network - Representation. Such a brilliant evening, and the BIGGEST THANKS to the creatives, producers, and directors who all took time out to come along and check out the event. It was fabulous to see connections forming across all aspects of our local creative industries and lightbulbs sparking all around the room about the possibilities. All of the films featured in the showcase will now go forward into judging for the Shiny Awards, taking place later this month. The films will also be added to the members’ Shiny List, our searchable archive of standout work from emerging directors. SHOUT OUT TO: ▪️The always wonderful Caroline Bottomley for bringing the event north and for all the fantastic, vital work she does with Shiny. ▪️ The showcase judges: LS’s finest Kojo Abban and Katie Mallinder, as well as Scottish Director Bonnie McCrae and The Berry’s Andy Daly. ▪️ Thanks to all the event sponsors including the Berry, Creative Outpost and GPN ▪️ Plus, a massive shout out of thanks to our own Hayley Urquhart for putting on such a brilliant event.
