Another fantastic children's book by this absolutely brilliant author!! Myself and my children have previously read several books by Sue which we all loved so we were looking forward to reading this one and we were not disappointed!!! This book is such a charming, fun and sweet book for babies, children and adults alike. Amazon has placed the reading age from 4 years to 8 years old but I am 39 years old, my partner Daz is 38 years old and we have 8 year old twin boys Hunter and Ryder and a 13 year old son Malaki and we all loved reading/listening to this brilliant story. This book is a charming and relatable story about family, school, losing something, story time and feelings with fantastic and colourful illustrations.

This would make a fantastic book to include on bookshelves in nurseries, playschool, libraries, doctors along with many other places that will keep the kids busy reading!!! At the back of the book there is information on Sue's other books and a fantastic dressing up and role play idea! This book is filled with bright and eye catching illustrations and my children loved looking and naming all the different items in the background. We had lots of fun naming all the different things that the children could see in the photos and naming all the colours. It is a fantastic book and I would say it is suitable for any child from new-born up. The font is a nice style and size making it easy for adults and children to see and read too which is definitely a bonus as I have struggled with some with some fonts that authors have used in children's books in the past. It would be a great book for children to be read to by their teachers in school. I am looking forward to reading more books by Sue to my children and hope that she is busy writing and illustrating the next one already!

Was This In The Plan?

It’s my turn on the book tour for Was This In The Plan? By Stephanie Nimmo; with thanks to Kay Kett because it is a book that will stay with me for a long time.

We join Nimmo family to share in their adventures. I loved the campervan travels as I could relate! This book takes you on a journey so there is a fitting element in that.

I loved the way that Stephanie told their story as though you are a part of the family and it is the reason that you live the highs with them but then are devastated with the lows.

As the reader, you see them build a full family life. When Daisy arrives life is turned upside down as they face a new future with the complexities that a life limiting condition comes with. At no point did the family feel sorry for themselves or change the attitude to the full life they led; things just had to be done in a different way.

As the family adjust to their new way of living, they are faced with Andy having a cancer diagnosis and once again, the strength is admirable. Instead of thinking about how unfair this is they make a plan to ensure that life is still lived in full.

Despite this being an emotional read, and it really is, it’s also a story of strength, love and living life in the moment, saying yes and relishing in that; the result just might be meeting Dave Grohl. It will make you think about those you love and the life you lead, we all think that life is mapped out but it can change and you might wonder, Was this in the plan?

I’ve gone classic with my pairing with this Rose Prosecco. It’s organic which I feel flows nicely with the idea of taking things just as they come. I also enjoyed it whilst in my caravan which seemed a valid tribute to the family campervan! Stephanie talks a lot about celebrating life’s wins and this bottle of bubbles is perfect for that; equally a glass of Andy’s red would also have worked.

To Stephanie, what a wonderful wife and Mum you are; to lose a husband and a daughter and to keep showing up in this world; your new chapter is very much deserved.

My thoughts
This really wasn't what I was expecting, but still it was an enjoyable read.
I felt that from the cover that this was going to be a MM spicy tale and most likely focusing on a relationship of three or potentially a love triangle. What it actually focuses on is Christopher and how he becomes inviegled in an attempt to take down a mysterious criminal boss, while also trying to hold down a relationship.
At first we meet Chris in a relationship with Julian, red flags all over the shop!
Then we meet Conor, who turns out to actually be Mat who Chris knew as kids. I cant say more about this without major spoilers but its a really interesting scenario!
There were a couple of romantic scenes but nothing overly explicit so it didnt quite hit the mark of a romance for me.
I really loved the character of Audrey, though there was a while I was like oh how good would it be if she was actually the mole 🤣
I wish we had just had another couple of chapters, I would have liked to see how Mat dealt with going home and explaining things, and I'd have also liked to see what happened next for everyone.
Its got lots of action and keeps a good pace with short, snappy chapters.

My thoughts
I was immediately attracted to this book because of the cover, then I discovered it was a Norwegian romance and thought yes please! I've read a couple of romances set in Norway before and always feel like the setting brings something completely magical to the tale, this is absolutely no exception!
I spent the first part of this book thinking it felt super familiar, I had to check several times I had not actually read this before - wouldn't be the first time! I hadn't, it just contained a lot of the things I've enjoyed previously in Norwegian based romances.
I really liked Ella and Leif, they had both clearly had so much loss in their lives, and seeing them bring out of one another exactly what they needed was heartwarming.
The other characters were also intriguing and I'd love to have stories for some of them as I think they could be really interesting.
There is angst, mystery and action throughout this so its not just a sweet romcom like the cover may make you think. There are some really serious topics interwoven throughout, and I felt like these were all handled sensitively and appropriately.
I found this a really quick read, I raced through multiple chapters just desperate to see how things would turn out.
This is a lovely read and I'd recommend to fans of small-town romances.

It's my pleasure to open the online book tour for The Knife Maker of Venice by David Gilman, a powerful historical adventure which sees a young Englishman captured by slavers – he must survive the snakepit that is seventeenth-century Venice.

I'm featuring an extract from the book, which is published by Head of Zeus:

The storm struck eight days after the ships sailed from Dartmouth on the English south coast. White Dove and twenty-eight others had departed for the forty days’ windward journey to the Newfoundland fishing grounds, to return in August with their abundance of salted cod. Richard Sheriff, cabin boy and son to a fisherman father, wedged between fallen spars and tangled ropes that had saved him from being sucked overboard, screamed as the sharp talons of fear hooked into his mind.

The ten-year-old had seen winter storms at home, tossing waves high on the cliff face and the castle at the mouth of the River Dart. A sea monster hurling its way skywards. He had begged his father to leave him ashore. Embarrassed him in front of the men gathered at the tavern. Let me stay with my sister, he had pleaded. Elizabeth, four years his senior, was now in service at the merchant’s house at the top of town.

The sea is the mother you never knew, his father had told him. She will rock you to sleep with her gentleness, but we must hope she never scolds you. He did not want the sea to be his mother, he insisted. The men around him laughed but his father’s voice was stern. They would sail for Newfoundland.

And now here he was: soaked and frozen from the brittle, cold Atlantic, surrounded by hundreds of rats swarming onto any solid surface, spray stinging his face. The ship was dying beneath his feet. Sobbing
with terror, he squinted at his father crawling crab-like towards him, fighting the pull of the sinking ship.
