Oh this was good. A beautifully written, deeply emotional novel that explores the complexity of love, longing and the quiet moments that shape a life. Rather than relying on dramatic twists, it finds its power in the small, intimate details of relationships, making the characters feel incredibly real and impossible not to care about.

Daverley’s prose is elegant and immersive, capturing the ache of missed opportunities, the weight of memory and the uncertainty of choosing between the life you’ve built and the life you once imagined. Every emotion feels authentic, and the story unfolds with patience and sensitivity, allowing each character the space to grow and reveal their flaws, hopes and vulnerabilities.

What impressed me most was the novel’s emotional honesty. It doesn’t offer simple answers or idealised romance, instead, it presents love in all its messy, complicated and beautiful forms (and we know I love that). The characters make difficult choices that feel true to who they are, and the ending is both satisfying and deeply moving, lingering long after I turned the final page.

If you enjoyed Talking at Night, you’ll find the same warmth, lyrical writing and emotional depth here. Claire has a gift for writing about the quiet, everyday moments that define us, and People in Love is another unforgettable novel that will stay with me for a long time. A very east 4 stars. Can’t wait to read more by this author.

P.s I think it’s best to go into this one blind, that’s what I did and I had a great reading experience because of it.

I’m Gonna Get You Back by Eva Des Lauriers

Rating: 4.75 stars

Oh wow, this was an absolute delight from beginning to end. This book captured my heart with its perfect blend of romance, humour, and emotional depth, making it impossible to put down.

The story follows Kenzie and her ex boyfriend Finn after a painful breakup. When they unexpectedly find themselves spending time together again, Kenzie comes up with two very different plans: either win Finn back or get revenge on him. What follows is a fun, clever, and emotional journey filled with unresolved feelings, unforgettable moments, and plenty of tension as the line between love and heartbreak becomes increasingly blurred.

The story perfectly balances romance, humor, and vulnerability. Beneath the lighthearted moments is a touching exploration of growth, forgiveness, and finding the courage to be honest with yourself and the people you care about. I found myself smiling constantly while reading, but there were also moments that tugged at my heart.

What I loved most about this one was the chemistry between Kenzie and Finn, it had depth which I love so much on second chance romances! Their history together made every interaction feel meaningful, and the mix of longing, hurt, hope, and lingering affection felt so authentic. Eva beautifully captured the complicated emotions that come with first love, heartbreak, and second chances.

Yes this story is a romance but it’s also about navigating mistakes, healing old wounds, and discovering what love really means when given a second chance.

The first book I’ve read by this author but definitely not the last. If you love second chance romance, read it! I binged it in two days. 🥹 I’m honestly surprised I haven’t seen this book all over instagram?!

my may reading wrap up 💛🌻✨

this month has been a strange one for me, it started off amazing then kinda went downhill halfway through… but onwards and upwards 🥹 just hoping june treats me a little better and brings me some luck along the way, god knows I need it.

on a more positive note, I did have a great reading month! and here’s what I read:

another mixed bag of genres which is pretty standard for me but I’m really hoping to read at least one fantasy next month! ngl I do struggle to read fantasy in the summer though, I much prefer the genre in autumn and winter.

current read is fever dream by elsie silver and despite some mixed reviews I’ve seen, I’m actually loving it! flown through the first 100 pages already today which is a good sign.

what’s been your favourite read of may? mine is without a doubt the great alone by kristin hannah! definitely saved the best til last work that one. ✨

Those who have read Beautiful World, Where Are You by Sally Rooney, did you enjoy it more than Normal People? I’m going to be reading it soon and she’s very much a hit and miss author for me so opinions are very much welcome.

🌲Sometimes all you need is this and a good book!

I think happiness is actually very simple. Countryside, fresh air, a quiet moment, and a book that makes the world disappear for a little while. Some days I forget how nice it feels to slow down properly. To sit outside for hours, listen to the wind, turn a few pages, and not feel guilty for resting. Books have this way of making ordinary moments feel important again, especially in places that already feel a little magical. 🙂‍↕️💚

Berserk appreciation post. 𒉭

A week ago I started rereading the Berserk manga (because I clearly enjoy pain and suffering) and despite how depressing it is in parts, I’m having the best time with it 🖤.

I’m also very slowly collecting the deluxe editions. I sold all mine two years ago (dumb, I know) but I sold them for a hefty amount so it was worth it.

Heart the Lover by Lily King 🧡

Genre: Lit Fic
Rating: 4 stars
Favourite quote: “You know how you can remember exactly when and where you read certain books? And it preserves it, like a time capsule.”

I won’t lie, I dnf’d this at first because I simply couldn’t get into it at all but I’d seen so many positive reviews for it so I came back to it… and I’m so glad I did. This one really touched me towards the end.

What makes this book truly special is its honesty. It doesn’t romanticise the struggle of being an artist or the confusion of adulthood. Instead, it leans into it. Casey’s days are filled with small disappointments, quiet victories, and the constant hum of self doubt. Yet through it all, there’s a quiet resilience in her, a refusal to give up on herself, even when it’d be easier to do so.

The love story woven through the novel is equally nuanced. Rather than presenting a simple choice between two men, the author explores what it means to be seen, to be understood, and to choose a life that aligns with who you are becoming. Love here isn’t just about romance, it’s about self respect, growth, and timing.

Lily King’s prose is simple but luminous. She has a way of making the ordinary feel significant, of finding beauty in uncertainty. By the end of the novel, you don’t feel like everything has been neatly resolved but you do feel something softer, something steadier like, hope.

This is a book for anyone who has ever felt behind in life, who has questioned their path, or who has held onto a dream even when it seemed impractical. It’s a reminder that growth doesn’t always look like progress and that sometimes, just continuing is enough.

I recently finished Heart the Lover (picked it back up again) and enjoyed it! I rated this one 4 stars, will post a full review tomorrow!

Now currently reading Voracious by Leigh Rivers and will most likely need therapy after it because what the fuck 😀.

Other than that, just been going gym, hanging out with the girls and recently got back into painting again 🥰 so nice to have my hobbies slowly coming back to me.
