Thanks to the tagged publishers for the gifted copies ๐Ÿซถ ๐Ÿ“– WOKE UP NO LIGHT by Leila Mottley (@aaknopf & @netgalley โ€ข out 4/16): an incisive poetry collection about the lives of Black girls and women. While some poems flew over my head, I loved how profound the ones I could interpret are ๐ŸŽง SMALL WORLDS by Caleb Azumah Nelson (@aardvark): a man navigates love, friendship, and his taut relationship with his immigrant parents. This lyrical masterpiece gave me all the feels, and the portrayal of the father-son relationship made me tear up ๐ŸŽง THE CUBAN HEIRESS by Chanel Cleeton (gifted @berkleypub): two women on a cruise from NY to Havana and their intertwined lives. A suspenseful historical romance that is predictable at times but an absorbing page-turner ๐Ÿ“– THE BLUEPRINT by Rae Giana Rashad (@harperbooks โ€ข out 2/13 โ€ข buddy-read with @elena.luo): in an alternate US, a Black woman becomes a concubine of a powerful white politician. While the author's notes provided some background, I was confused about the plot because of the writing style for most of the book ๐ŸŽง DELE WEDS DESTINY by Tomi Obaro (@vintageanchorbooks): a light read about three women and college BFFs attending a wedding in Nigeria that explores motherhood, class, and generational gaps. I wished for a more fleshed-out ending ๐Ÿ“– THE BOOK OF LOVE by Kelly Link (@atrandomhouse โ€ข out 2/13): three teenagers come back from the dead and are tasked with magical assignments to stay alive. This book took me on a wild adventure I didnโ€™t know I needed. Itโ€™s not too YA, the fantasy elements arenโ€™t too focused on world-building, and I grew to care for all the characters deeply ๐Ÿ“– ใฟใฟใ™ใ‚™ใใฏ้ป„ๆ˜ใซ้ฃ›ใฒใ‚™ใŸใค by Mieko Kawakami*: this collection of interviews between Meiko Kawakami and Haruki Murakami provided insights into the latterโ€™s writing process. Kawakamiโ€™s brilliant questions also gave me much to think about as a fan, reader & reviewer [continued in the comments] ๐Ÿ’ฌ Any fun weekend plans?

One authorโ€™s book Iโ€™m super excited for is One Last Word by @suzannepark I love contemporary fiction books featuring strong female protagonists and this is pitched for fans of To All the Boys Iโ€™ve Loved Before. ๐ŸŒด One Last Word coming April 16, 2024 - Women in Tech - Asian American rep - Romance - Friendship reconciliation Sara Chae is the founder of the app One Last Word, which allows you to send a message to whomever you want after you pass. Safeguards are in place so the app will only send out when youโ€™re definitely, absolutely, 100% dead, but when another Sara Chae dies and the obituary triggers the prototype to auto-send messages that Sara uploads on one drunken nightโ€”to her emotionally charged mother, to a former best friend who ghosted her, and to her unrequited high school crush Harryโ€”she has to deal with all the havoc that ensues and reopen old wounds from the past. She applies for a venture capital mentorship and is accepted to the program, only to find out that the mentor sheโ€™s assigned is none other than her former crush and VC superstar Harry Shim, and her life goes from uncertain to chaotic overnight. I hit 1K yesterday! โœจ (Part 2) I just want to say thank you to each and everyone of you for being here and engaging with me discussing what we all love! The three female main characters in the Ending Fire series: Sylah, Anoor, and Hassa, are ones that I think about A LOT. I love books. Long version: I love taking pictures of books, of me and books, of plants and books, of... ah you get the idea. I also love reviewing books I love (and rant ocassionally) I mostly blog about books before I discovered that there was such a thing as bookstagram. My bookish journey started after leaving my account to rot for 7 years after its creation. Then in 2019 I started sharing quotes, then poems and that's when I joined bookstagram. I love sharing my opinion of books I've read and read others review, now I feel content because I've finally found my community. ๐ŸŒบWhen did you start Bookstagram? - I first posted about books in the winter of 2020. Around the same time I change my username to what it is now. ๐ŸŒบWhat inspired your username? Jessie is my nickname. Short for Jessica. Winterspring is something I coined from the season me and my husband was born.
