POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Ugh, not me talking about this again, why can’t I just have fun and read! 😭 *sarcasm*

Some longer form content, but I hope you take the time to think deeply about these things because it does have value. Walk with me while I talk out some of the responses I have to the very common things people say when defending the way they read. Which to be CLEAR, I never thought anyone had to do, but they did anyway so let’s talk about it.

⭐️⭐️ SWIPE to the end for diverse creators to follow and some pretty easy to spot (if you ask me) diverse book recs ⭐️⭐️

Read diversely or not. Care or don’t. The mental gymnastics around the “why” and “how” is tired.

Original context:

A funny reel was made showing the way people “blindly” choose books and yet somehow end up reading the white author regardless…

*I didn’t post usernames of commenters or the video because I don’t want to unleash or help push any kind of online bullying.*

Listen I get it, there’s not always enough time in the day or the month to get reading in and that’s OKAY. I also know reading can be overwhelming, you walk into the book store, there’s a ton of people, there’s signage everywhere, so many titles, it’s OVERWHELMING.

Take a second. Hangout with me. Reading is supposed to be grounding.

I truly think reading is magical and here’s Ink & Tide’s Guide to Becoming a Reader…

People always ask me “Tony how do you read so much?” And honestly at first I was lucky, as a part of my corporate job I facilitated a book club for 100 lawyers and legal staff and I had to pre-screen books, so I got a lot of reading in, but I don’t always.

Last year I read five books, and this year I’m opening up a bookstore. So, I made this guide and it’s for those who don’t remember the last time they read a book, someone in a reading slump or maybe even those who are afraid because it might be challenging.

It’s also for me, in case I go through a period where I’m not reading as much.

With social media and living in 2026, there are expectations for everyone in EVERY space they’re in, even reading. Let’s be honest, you don’t need to read the most niche titles, or only what’s trending, or feel bad for not reading all of the classics. Read what you enjoy.

A book is a book, and the hunt to find the best ones TO YOU is what makes reading exciting. Maybe it is a classic, or something I mentioned above, but it could also be a weird fiction, a spicy romance, maybe a cli-fi?

Here’s where I start or come back to, to get into reading. I split it into two categories: things I know (life experiences, career, topics I’ve studied), and things I love (hobbies, film/tv shows, music, games). There are stories that represent a lot of different experiences and topics across so many genres.

And there are so many creators that have amazing taste in books. I’ve tagged a variety of my favorites who help me find my next read. Where do you typically find your reads?

Now, you know what you want to read about, it’s kind of up to you where you go next. However, here’s a trick that has never failed me and that is starting small. No, it’s not cheating and it’s no

I got tagged in this by @seealliread and immediately knew I needed to make a very ME version 👀📚

Equal parts queer lit, emotional damage, yearning, fantasy, romance, and “this book changed my brain chemistry” vibes

Tally your points as you swipe, then drop your score in the comments so I can see how compatible our reading tastes are 💌

And listen, if you don’t score super high, that’s okay too 💛 Different reading tastes don’t mean we can’t be besties. Tbh some of my fave bookish convos happen with people who love completely different things than I do. You might even convince me to pick up something outside my usual comfort zone!

Be honest: are we casual mutuals or full-on reading soulmates? 💬 Tell me your score and the last book that made you cry, gasp, stare at a wall afterward, and/or feel all the things!!

@seealliread tagged me in this trend, and turns out I’m surprisingly easy to summon 🔮

All it takes is emotionally devastating reads, flavored hydration, marathon discourse, carbs, a perfectly booked and organized calendar, and some deeply unserious and heavily queer internet lore.

Summon at your own risk. If you see this, consider yourself tagged!!

What’s ONE oddly specific item that would summon you immediately? 💬 Or what phrase would instantly get your attention?

If I was the MMC…apparently I’d be a lil emotionally unwell but in a romantic way 📖🌲✨

Thanks to @mintedpages for tagging me in this bc I had to sit with the truth that my “main character energy” is mostly: books, overthinking, playlists for every emotion, and disappearing into nature when life gets loud 😅

Tbh tho…I think I’d still read this character’s story. He’s soft, a lil chaotic, deeply loyal, constantly healing, and trying his best in a world that feels a bit too big sometimes.

So yeah…MMC energy confirmed! Flawed but lovable 💕 Now I need to know: What would YOUR one-star review say? ⭐️👀 What’s your most “main character” habit??

Tagged some bookish besties, but if you see this, consider yourself tagged! 🏷️
