I really enjoyed Milo and Pru’s story from beginning to end. They had undeniable chemistry throughout.

I found it sweet how they both had such supportive families, and how well they fit in with the others. Milo and Tom just got along so well, like father and son. Tom could tell how much he liked his daughter, and supported him.

My heart broke seeing the hard decisions they had to make in regard to Pru’s mum. It must’ve been so heartbreaking trying to figure out what the best decision was for her. It also broke when Tom had been hiding his illness from Pru. He only wanted her to go and live her life, he didn’t want to prevent her from doing that.

Milo had a lot of past trauma, and I’m glad his brother wanted to bring it up so they could try to move forward and not let it define them and Nadia. The time they spent together cemented the fact how much they adored one another, and showed they were there for one another no matter what happened.

There were so many spicy scenes I was obsessed! I’m glad Milo respected Pru, and took it at the pace she wanted. On paper, they would’ve been so unlikely to connect - but their connection was undeniable and was seamlessly portrayed.

A great read for this time of year, and showing the power of finding yourself again, being around those who love you the most and making the best out of the most difficult situations in life 🤎

What did this bookworm say to the librarian?
Can I burrow this book, please?

Education is the key to unlocking a brighter future—let’s advocate for access and equality this International Day of Education, today — January 24!

And now for today´s educational joke:
My 7-year-old son came in from school today and asked me,
"Mum, what kind of mouse can walk on 2 legs?"
"Erm, I don't know," I replied.
"Mickey Mouse," he said, laughing.
"Dad, what kind of duck can walk on 2 legs?"
"Donald Duck," I replied.
"No, all ducks, silly!"

#twofortuesday An Ideal Husband by Erica James - now out in PAPERBACK review on my post as I read earlier this year! Synopsis :: After a long and seemingly happy marriage, and a wonderful family Christmas, Louisa is stunned when husband Kip asks for a divorce on Boxing Day. He’d never seemed unhappy – and they’ve raised three children together.

For months, Kip has been secretly seeing a younger woman – and if that wasn’t bad enough, it’s the woman who broke their youngest son’s heart.

Now Kip is moving out and embarking on a new life with Zoe, and Louisa is left to pick up the pieces. Their beloved family home, Charity Cottage, is up for sale, and tensions are running high.

Yet, despite the betrayal and anger, when Louisa lays eyes on what might be a unique and welcoming new home, she feels a first glimmer of hope that life might be taking a turn for the better.

And while Louisa is making exciting plans, Kip finds himself facing challenges of his own and begins to learn that living the dream may not be as simple as he thought… go go go ! @hqstories #goodreads

Educated by Tara Westover

My one non-fiction book of the year so far 😂 so I had to read it in Non-Fic November obviously!

This is Westover’s memoir, detailing how she grew up in Idaho among her family of devout/religiously conservative Mormons. Her father was a Doomsday prepper and scrap man, her mother a self-taught midwife and herbalist. Westover pushed herself to break free of that life and literally get herself educated academically, as well as worldly.

When I tell you I devoured this book, I mean it! I listened to the audio version and my ears were sore from from my headphones 🙃

It’s really wild to me that this is a life story and not a work of fiction or a Hollywood film. It became even more disturbing when I realised Westover is around my age and therefore the disparities between our upbringings were so vivid. I found it really hard to wrap my head around actually. It’s admirable how she overcame her situation because she knew there was something better out there and in the process made herself so vulnerable; I can’t imagine having to relearn, as an adult, literally everything! That everything you thought you knew about the world was wrong.

The whole account is wild. I’ll remember it for a long time.

Synopsis ___Amid the biggest Brooklyn snowstorm in living memory, an unexpected friendship blossoms between three people thrown together by circumstance. Richard Bowmaster, a lonely university professor in his sixties, hits the car driven by Evelyn Ortega, a young, undocumented migrant from Guatemala. But what at first seems an inconvenience takes an unforeseen and darker turn when Evelyn comes to him and his neighbour Lucia Maraz, desperately seeking help. Sweeping from present-day Brooklyn to Guatemala to turbulent 1970s Chile and Brazil, and woven with Isabel Allende’s trademark humanity, passion and storytelling verve, In the Midst of Winter is a mesmerizing and unforgettable tale.

My thoughts —-
This is the second book I have read by those author and her writing is beautiful , magical realism and great storytelling. Three characters all come together over one incident . Through the novel they all tell some heartbreaking stories of their life experiences and how they have come to this part in their lives.
Guatemala to Brooklyn the sad and horrific circumstances that Evelyn encountered and how she ended up in USA. Richard’s life his spiralling sadness at the loss of his family .Lucia the warm Spanish speaking neighbour who is called on to help translate for Richard when he has a car “bump’ into Evelyn.

All told within in current history and life in both countries , the tough violence that brings refugees to ‘safe’ countries, human trafficking, domestic violence, rape and family loss . It is not all doom and gloom there is human kindness , love , gentle humour and compassion and enjoyable read I will read more by this author………………………... “In the Midst of Winter , I finally found there was within me an invincible summer” Albert Camus #winterreads #isabelallende @atriabooks @allendeisabel

My thoughts 💭 ...

The important thing to highlight when it comes to Isabel's writing is that all of her stories are really different from each other. Which can sometimes be a rare thing coming from an author who has a back catalogue like hers. Beautiful Liars is no exception!

It's an engaging story with lots of twists and turns, unreliable narrators, secrets, lies, toxic friendship, false identity, survivor's guilt, anger, loneliness, mental health issues, stalking, violence, revelations, jealousy, siblings rivalry, bitter betrayals and much more.

Isabel's plots are always well researched, constructed, and executed. Despite them being complex in nature. She writes so well. With perfect pace and emotion inducing, thought-provoking, and descriptive writing.

With her alternating perspectives. Isabel allows her readers to see all sides of the story. Skillfully exploring the reasoning and behaviours behind the characters, their lives, and their actions. Gradually revealing the puzzle pieces of the plot whilst creating suspense, intrigue, and intensity. Finishing it off with a twisted and satisfying ending.

If you fancy reading a story that tackles the ideas of the lies, we tell ourselves in order to survive and how memories and lived experiences can become distorted over time and affect the reality of the life we live in the present. Then this is the book for you.

Do you like your romances open door or closed door?

I have read some excellent romances with closed doors, but if my three favourite books of the year, and my three forever favourites, are anything to go by, I'm definitely a fan open door.

I find it adds so much more to the romances and also gives us a bit of insight into the characters and how they are falling in love.

I have tagged the usual crew for this challenge and make sure to take part in the poll below.

Which do you prefer in a romance novel?
