A little sneak peek behind the scenes at the @inpressbooks office this week and a look at what’s coming from @andotherpics in 2027!

We’ve already shared a few thoughts on Asterism (January), Lark (March) and Third Floor, No Elevator (April), but there are another two books in this lovely pile that we’re particularly excited to get stuck into.

First up is University Island by Hungarian writer István Vörös, translated by @alehoczky76 and @adampiette. A surreal, darkly funny novel told in verse that takes us back to the classical world to explore the troubles of modern academia. Following a lecturer caught up in an increasingly absurd and authoritarian system, it’s a sharp satire of censorship, bureaucracy and the politics of higher education. Coming in March.

Then there’s Across the Ice by Peter Kurzeck, appearing in English for the first time. Set in 1980s Frankfurt, it follows a man navigating the breakdown of a long-term relationship, the loss of his job and the everyday business of starting again. Through memories, wandering city streets and the small details of daily life, Kurzeck builds a tender portrait of love, loss and everything in between. The first in his ambitious The Old Century series, and one we’re really looking forward to discovering. Translated from German by Imogen Taylor and releasing in April.

Between them, five very different books, and just a taste of what’s shaping up to be another exciting year for And Other Stories.

More on these gems soon!

(📸: A special thanks to @pattiepoetry in the office for her excellent handiwork. Well on your way to fulfilling your true dreams of becoming a hand model!)

Happy Bookshop Day! Whenever I go into a bookshop I ferl calm and a little excited! Each independent shop displays its own favourites from what is new and of course the shelves are a treasure trove.
I went to @rossiter_books in Ross on Wye earlier this week and enjoyed the hazardous journey to the front door as the road was being dug up. It enhanced the feeling of spaciousness inside!

@borderlessbooks is my new local bookshop and doing a wonderful job supporting festivals and holding author talks . It is the Year of Reading and according to latest research the average adult in the UK reads 3 books a year.
There seems to be a massive growth in independent bookshops so maybe the conversations with knowledgeable booksellers in bookshops will make those figures higher!

Happy Bookshop Day!

After spending the morning at the @erwordfest, it would‘ve been rude not to pop into a bookshop to mark the occasion. So I paid a lovely visit to @thebeverleybookshop, a gorgeous independent, family-run bookshop right in the heart of this beautiful market town.

With almost 10,000 books on the shelves, there’s plenty to get lost in here. I was particularly impressed by their selection of translated fiction and huge range of signed new releases, alongside plenty of special editions, backlist favourites, local authors, and more besides.

Naturally, I couldn’t leave empty-handed and picked up a copy of #they by Danish author Helle Helle, translated by Martin Aitken and published by @akoyapublishing.

Bookshop Day is a national campaign run by @booksaremybag, and a brilliant reminder of just how important our high street bookshops are. Not just as places to buy books, but as spaces for discovery and community. Whether it’s your regular local or somewhere new you’ve stumbled across, there’s always something special about spending time in an indie bookshop.

A big thank you to the team at Beverley Bookshop for such a lovely visit. And don’t let the empty photos fool you, the place was packed!

Here’s to a busy Bookshop Day to all indies, and long may it continue ❤️

What are you doing to celebrate Bookshop Day?

Happy Bookshop Day to all the gorgeous bookshops that make my heart sing, and to all the incredible booksellers who work in them. ❤️ Shopping online could never compare to stepping into your local bookshop and being hand-sold a perfectly irresistible title by a passionate bookseller. Here are just a few of my favourite bookshops to browse…📚 #bookshopday #choosebookshops

Such riches! Do come along if you can. It would be lovely to see you.
