1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
2 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce
1 tablespoon honey

Chad and I hadn’t visited Desert Porch Mercantile until we started buying our ground beef from Boschma Farms.
It’s the cutest little store and it’s tucked right behind The Red Onion. 10/10 would recommend stopping in the next time you’re waiting for a table!

The other day, my friend Riley and I took an overnight trip together to film content for Modern Edit, do some business work, network, and connect. And it was beautiful.

We laughed so hard we cried.
We laughed until our stomachs hurt.
We laughed until we were exhausted.

But somewhere in between all that laughter, we had one of those conversations that makes you stop and think about how incredible God’s timing really is.

When we got back to my house, Riley was laying on the couch looking through our photos and videos, laughing all over again. She looked at me and said, “Oh my gosh… how are we just now becoming friends in this life?” And I said, “I know. I’ve been thinking the exact same thing.”

Because when you look back, you can see all the little pieces that had to fall into place.

After Riley’s tragedy, I was coaching a football team, and Jake was on my team. At the time, it was just football. But now I can see that God knew Jake needed familiar faces and friends around him.

He knew Riley and I would become friends.
He knew our kids would become friends.
He knew our families would grow close.
He knew our faith would become part of the foundation of our friendship.

And He knew that eventually, we would create something together that would become a passion project that fills both of our cups.
Modern Edit has become so much more than a project. It has opened our eyes to so many beautiful things and reminded us that the right people really do enter our lives at the right time.
And maybe that’s something we all need to remember:

Not every friendship is meant to look the same forever. Some friendships go through seasons. Some circles get smaller. And that’s okay.

Because quality will always matter more than quantity.

God is so good. He knows the whole story when we can only see one chapter.

So trust Him. Open your heart. Let Him guide you, remove what no longer belongs, and bring the people into your life who are meant to walk beside you.

Because sometimes you’re not meeting someone late.

You’re meeting them exactly when God intended you to. 🤍

Many of you expressed an interest in supporting small businesses in our area, so we put together a list of farms and stands close to home.

We truly have some great options right here in our community and hope this makes it a little easier to support the hardworking farmers and families around us! Keep in mind, most of local beef businesses run through online orders.

We would LOVE to bring attention to YOUR local business, too!! If you’re a local business (related to agriculture or not), drop your business name below so we can share!

Thank you for supporting local!
