BAM! A thrilling chase, such a dirty run, a lucky win, legit the most crashes I’ve ever had and what fun. And…I slept 5 hours 🥳🥳
In my short experience, the AZTR 300 is the most adventure condensed ride I’ve ever done. A 9-hour delay for banking hours in Tucson, a 1-hour late start, a fried AXS battery, and a mad sidewall tear definitely slowed things down and the weather was INSANE!!! The wind was legit f*cked, but luck was on my side for the most part. I loved it!
Dexter, Josh, and George made an awesome group to chase. Unfortunately, Josh crashed hard on Oracle Ridge, and I was bummed to see him scratch at the Circle K in Oracle. And somehow George Dexter and I crossed the finish within 2 hours of each other. It was good fun.
2 days 18 hours 22 minutes (ride clock)
2 days 19 hours 22 minutes (race clock)
Despite delay, I still made under 3 days 🥳

Last Race of the Season @taurusmountainrace 🇹🇷

My plan went out the window on Day 1.

Pouring rain from the starting gun didn’t help. After 190 km, I called it an early night and slept in a barn, with 36 km still to go before CP1.

After just an hour and a half of sleep, I put the final nail in the coffin of whatever was left in my legs. The next 14 hours were painfully slow.

At kilometre 350, I finally switched the engine back on and managed to pick up the pace, heading into the night shift with high morale.

Sleeping at 2,400 m under a sky full of stars felt incredible. Day 2 ended with solid progress.

Day 3 started at 3 am, with my eyes set on CP2. If only I’d known what was waiting for me - peanut butter mud.

At kilometre 540, with one eye blind, my hands covered in mud and the valve core stuck inside my broken pump, I gave up trying to fix it and went to sleep, with little hope.

At 3 am, I called a taxi to Karaman.

Thanks to the incredible hospitality of the locals, especially @gokhantopcu70 @ahmet_taskara7 and others, I was ready to head back to where I’d left the route.

And then, seconds later, the notification came through - the Taurus Mountain Race had been stopped.

Not the race I had planned, but one I’ll never forget.

I keep that thang (hangover light) on me for rides just like this. Go play in the mud, make breakfast for dinner. 100 billion human lives have flickered on and off, you get to be one of them, have a nice time.
