My friends & band mates @classichlooo & @boutjesse leave for missions-training in the fall. I’m sad about it but I love them so much & am thrilled to be playing at their ‘friendraiser’ concert on May 27th at Blessings Christian Church.
TBH I think it’s going to be one of those shows that if you miss it & then hear your friends talking about it the next day, you will feel some sadness & fomo 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’ve put the ticket link in my bio!

Twenty Years is out today.

This song was written the day after my 30th birthday. I always feel a bit of discomfort when I release a song which was written in a uniquely specific time - all the more so when I feel I’ve grown out of the place I was in when I wrote it. Having said that, I’m still really happy with the way this one explores some important ideas. Learning perseverance after you discover you’ve been naively toiling hard in the wrong direction, being skeptical of fix-all answers, being in between states and neither hopeful nor despairing - these are all in there.

I’ll put links in my linktree in my bio. Do have a listen, and let me know what you think.

Thank you very much to @glenwwatkinson , who mixed this one and played the drums on it (both at @sheepdogstudios ), @protector.rsi played bass, and @boutjesse and @classichlooo provided the BGVs - I couldn’t be happier with them. I did the rest. Mastered, as usual, by @transparent_mastering .

2022 Reading List:

Jesse Bout painted this little watercolour piece and gave it to me when we did our end-of-the-year book podcast. I love it because it reminds me how connective reading is. If I can ask someone what they are reading, I can ask them what they find fascinating, what issues they are grappling with, and what skills they are working on.

Reading seems like such an isolated activity, but books have connected and strengthened some of my most meaningful friendships. I’m so grateful for that.

If you keep track of the books you read last year, I would genuinely love to see what you have been reading.

———

IG won’t let me post my full list. It’s over on FB if you happen to be interested. In no particular order, here are ten books I read this year that really stood out to me (for some reason or another).

What is a Girl Worth? - Rachel Denhollander
The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self - Carl Trueman
World War Z - Max Brooks
The Body Keeps the Score - Bessel Van Der Klok
Red Notice - Bill Browder
Alcoholics Anonymous - Fourth Edition
Psychology and Christianity: Five Views - Spectrum Multiview Books
So Good They Can’t Ignore You - Cal Newport
On Guard - Deepak Reju
Drugs Without the Hot Air - David Nutt

Had a magical night taking photos of @hannahsloots and her friends at @millshardware last week for her EP release concert.

If you haven't already given the EP a listen, go do so now. Her soulful voice and dynamic lyrics never fail to disappoint!
