✨Third Places ✨ The spots outside of home and work where we can just be. How rare those spaces have become. Too often we rush past each other quiet and disconnected. It makes me nostalgic for the way neighborhoods used to feel - where the local corner spot was the anchor of your social life. But as I look around the bar tonight, I’m flooded with gratitude. I am thankful for the small businesses where community still truly exists. Watching friends and neighbors smiling, sharing wine, swapping stories, and striking up conversations with complete strangers makes me really happy. Keep lingering. Keep connecting. And thank you, thank you, thank you to our staff, industry friends and patrons. You all make Fishtown Social a special place.🍷✨🏡

The 4th Annual Beaujolais Nouveau Blind Tasting Throwdown at Thirst! Running it back this year, of course, for our busiest day of the year, the immemorial one that celebrates the yearly harvest, the youngest wines of the year, the ode to voluminous imbibing, the celebration and satirization of the “blind taste,” the Gamay that runneth over —- we will have a whopping EIGHT nouveaux this year to blind taste and vote on your favorite with the winner crowned at close!

Following last year’s triumphant upset by @jet_ski_slim will there be another surprise this year? Though we promise it’s all Beaujolais (most likely) this go round.

Come thru 5 to close and taste, celebrate, and stock up on some Nouveau or any other wine your heart desires - we’ll have a lot!!

See you Thursday the 19th - the third Thursday of November and undeniably the best Thursday of the year.

Our next class is in two weeks! I’m excited to host one of my former wine directors @jobrisk who worked with me at my previous restaurants, Isla and Crudo e Nudo, and who brings a wealth of knowledge, creativity, and hospitality to the table. We’ll be mainly focusing on wines from Portugal as part of our monthly series of ongoing education! 🇵🇹 Ticket includes class + wine flight. Open to all and no reservations needed.

There’s a peninsula that juts off of Catalonia into the Mediterranean called Cap de Creus. It’s insanely beautiful, as you might expect, situated between the rugged Pyrenees and the sparkling blue sea. It was the birthplace of Salvador Dalì. It’s also home to two of the most charming Garnacha-based wines we’ve tasted in some time.

Anna Espelt grew up in a winemaking family — Espelt Viticultors owns 200 hectares of vines and produces a wide range of wines from native varieties. Today’s post features her personal, eponymous project and the two wines she produces herself, a red made from Garnacha and a white made from Garnacha Blanca and Garnacha Gris, coming from a few small plots overlooking the Med and studded with granite.

Cap de Creus, and Empordà, the larger region, have been inhabited for millennia. On hikes around her vines, Anna has discovered evidence of human inhabitation from the Bronze Age. What a causal outsider might look at and see as a boulder, a stray glacial remnant, Anna knows to have been erected 4000 years ago. Anna describes the region in terms of its elements: the sea, granite, wind, blue skies, wild herbs. She doesn’t mention vines because it’s inherently understood that of course there will be vineyards planted here, as they have been for eons.

Knowing she’s on ancient land drives home the importance of organic, regenerative farming practices. Anna studied habitat restoration and organic farming, and unsurprisingly, her farming is top notch. Both colors of Pla de Gates are farmed organically — an easier task thanks to the strong winds — and carefully crafted in the cellar.

Run don’t walk to the store to grab these.

For this FAIR Conversation, we’re in Greenpoint with Dave Fernie @customercervix, Beverage Director at @socceria.nyc.
Big games, tacos, cocktails and a room that gets very loud at the right moment. Dave talks Socceria, his approach to drinks and how FAIR fits behind the bar.

A minute in Brooklyn, in very good company. Sound on 🔥
