Kiana Rezvani Baghae (MLA 2026) and Michael Harding (MLA 2026) have been recognized by the American Society of Landscape Architects (@nationalasla) as part of its annual Student Awards. ⭐

The awards recognize students from around the world for graduate work in one of eight categories, representing the highest levels of academic achievement and future potential. This year, 39 projects were selected as winners from 399 eligible applicants.

Rezvani Baghae and Harding received an honor award in the general design category for their master of landscape architecture project, "re-Wrighting Decay: A Regenerative form of Cyclical Forest Stewardship.”

At Martin's Head, an Atlantic Canadian coastal property, their project proposes the regeneration of old-growth Wabanaki forest through the cultural production of shipwrighting, the material practices of building and repairing wooden ships. Their faculty advisory was Daniels alumnus Matthew A.J. Brown (MLA 2010), principal and founding partner of @brackish.ca a landscape architecture practice based in Atlantic Canada.

The jury citation praised the team for its "strong concept integrating culture, ecology, and time" and its "innovative use of decay."

Further congratulations @janetrosenbergstudio and Daniels #uoftalumni Nicholas Gosselin (BAAS 2012, MLA 2016), Wayne Swanton (BLA 1989) and Bang Wang (MLA 2020), recipients of the Award of Excellence from ASLA as part of its annual Professional Awards.

The team was recognized for Kìwekì Point, which means "to return to one's homeland" in Algonquin. Designed for the National Capital Commission (NCC) and located in Ottawa, ON, Kìwekì Point challenges conventional approaches to park design in a nation's capital, inviting visitors to reconnect with the river and the land.

Award recipients will be recognized at the ASLA 2026 Conference on Landscape Architecture in Los Angeles on September 16. 👏 👏 👏
