One of the biggest decisions I’ve made, and one I’m so grateful I had the opportunity to make. 🤍

In December 2024, at 32, I chose to have a preventative double mastectomy with direct-to-implant reconstruction because of my BRCA2 mutation.

It was emotional in ways I’m still understanding, but more than anything, I came out of the experience feeling incredibly empowered.

After growing up with breast cancer so present in my family, being able to make a proactive choice for my health felt like taking back some control over my own story.

I’m so grateful for my body, my amazing care team, and the knowledge that allowed me to make the decision that felt right for me. 💗

It’s been two years since we officially opened our doors up to applications after officially getting our 501(c)3 approved.

Two years of talking about my mission and working with an unstoppable determination. Every. Single. Day.

And it looks like others are talking about it too, with their friends and communities.

This ripple effect is real. (And P.S you too can ripple anything you feel deep in your soul. Consider this your sign that it’s time to level up)

As is the desire to find connection and healing, not only in the cancer community, but with everyone that is a part of @genuineclimbing.

We started with 3 retreats and hosted 4 this year including the addition of Boulder,CO.

We have 5 scheduled for next year and are in the works of expanding to another retreat outside the US.

We are growing with a movement of people who believe in our mission.

Apparently the internet strangers all ended up in the same room. 😂💕

The Weill Cornell/FORCE Symposium somehow managed to bring so many of us together under one roof…people I’ve connected with, learned from, collaborated with, and cheered on from behind a screen, all there with the same mission.

To educate. To advocate. To support this community. And to keep moving the conversation around hereditary cancer forward.

There’s something pretty special about finally standing beside the people you’ve been doing this work alongside from afar. 🧬💕

Grateful for the conversations, the connections, and the incredible women behind this work.

Turns out Mom was wrong about some internet strangers. 😂

What an incredible few days of community, connection, and inspiration! 🧬💙

The GPCP FORCE 2026: Innovations in Cancer Genetics Symposium at Weill Cornell Medicine brought together so many incredible advocates, organizations, healthcare professionals, patients, previvors, and survivors to share knowledge, experiences, and support one another.

I reconnected with old friends and finally met Instagram friends IRL! I made so many new connections and these few days were such a wonderful reminder of the power of community.

And to all my friends I somehow forgot to take pictures with... I really need to get better at that! 🫣

A special thank you to @emilyepsteinlmsw for inviting me to collaborate with her on the Patient Wellness & Connection Space, and to Tracy from @brcastrong , not only for being such an incredible partner in bringing the space together, but also for putting up with me all weekend! 💕

So grateful to everyone who helped make this experience so meaningful, and to @drmelissakfrey for her vision and leadership in creating this symposium.

A little preparation can make the appointment feel more manageable. Consider booking an early appointment so you have less time to anticipate it, bring headphones or something that helps you feel grounded, and most importantly, tell your mammography technologist that you're nervous.

They can explain what's happening step by step, let you know what to expect, and give you a moment when you need one.

Your first mammogram may feel unfamiliar. You don't have to pretend it doesn't.

A pinch-me moment 🤎 I debuted Trace at the Innovations in Cancer Genetics Symposium at Weill Cornell.

After months of building behind the scenes, I finally got to share our patches in person. Hearing what people wanted from scar care—and seeing their response to Trace—made me even more sure about what we’re building.

Dear Body,
I’m sorry for all the times I looked at you and only saw the things I wanted to change. I’m sorry I didn’t always appreciate you when you were healthy. I didn’t realize how much I would miss the version of you I once took for granted. Then one day you betrayed me.
Or at least that’s what it felt like.
You gave me cancer.
You became the place where my fear lived. The place where doctors found something that would change my entire life. Suddenly you weren’t something I was worried about fitting into clothes or feeling confident in. You became something I was fighting to keep alive. And then I had to make choices about you that no woman should ever have to make. I cut pieces of you away to save my life. I watched you change through chemotherapy, through menopause, through surgeries, through scars and pain and healing. I lost my hair. I lost parts of the body I had known my entire life. I lost the reflection I recognized.
But somewhere along the way I realized something…. You were never the enemy.
You were the body that carried me through it all.
You endured every needle, every medication, every surgery, every scar, every sleepless night. You kept showing up when I was exhausted. You healed when I didn’t think you could. You adapted when I asked you to survive things you never should have had to. And you taught me that beauty was never about having the body I started with. Beauty was surviving long enough to become someone I never knew I could be.
So, Body, I forgive you.
And more importantly I forgive myself for not loving you sooner. I may not look the way I once did. I may never have the body I thought I would grow old with.
But I have this one.
This scarred, changed, imperfect, resilient body.
And I am proud of her.
You didn’t fail me.
You saved me.
And I promise I will spend the rest of my life treating you like the miracle you always were.

Thursday, I got to talk about the things most people only whisper about in a waiting room. Out loud. In a room full of people who wanted to hear it. 🎤

Huge thank you to GPCP Force for having me on the “I just had surgery down there... now what?” panel, and for the wellness round tables and connection and support circles that followed. Those conversations were the best part.

Here’s what came up again and again. After pelvic surgery, you get discharge papers and a follow-up date. When surgery or treatment sends you into menopause overnight, you often get even less. Hot flashes get all the attention. The pelvic floor changes, like leaking, dryness, pain with sex, or even discomfort sitting down, often don’t get mentioned at all.

Nobody tells you that’s part of recovery, or that it’s treatable. That’s the gap pelvic floor PT fills. You don’t have to figure out “now what” on your own.

Send this to someone who just had surgery down there or went through menopause overnight and is wondering what’s next. And follow for more of the pelvic floor education your doctor never gave you.
