🎀 A Code of Conduct Means Nothing If the Bullies Laugh at It. 🎀

These screenshots are exactly why I keep speaking up.

Hours after I posted about trauma-informed care and accountability, a known survivor “volunteer”@publicly mocked the idea of a Code of Conduct while participating in behavior that no survivor space should tolerate.

A space that claims to protect survivors cannot also normalize public ridicule, pinned attacks, and community pile-ons.

A Code of Conduct isn’t measured by what’s written on a website.

It’s measured by what leadership allows.

It’s measured by what moderators pin.

It’s measured by whether bullying is stopped—or normalized.

Safe spaces aren’t defined by mission statements. They’re defined by culture.

📖 Full breakdown, context, and receipts are on my Facebook. Link in bio.

You tried to silence us.
You tried to break us.
You tried to change the story.

But they cannot stop us from protecting children.
We will not rest until every child is safe from institutional abuse.

I’ve spent the last few days reflecting on what it means to finally see Provo Canyon School shut down for good. ❤️‍🩹

For so many years, this felt impossible. There were moments when people told us to give up, said nothing would ever change, or that our voices didn’t matter. But this is proof that when you refuse to stop fighting for what you believe in, anything is possible.

To every survivor who bravely shared their story, thank you. Your courage changed history. To every advocate, family member, journalist, legislator, and supporter who stood beside us and believed us, thank you for helping make this moment possible. 🤍

This victory belongs to all of us.

I hope this reminds anyone chasing what feels impossible that you can accomplish anything you put your mind to. Never underestimate the power of your voice, your resilience, or what can happen when people come together for something bigger than themselves. 💫

While I’m taking a moment to celebrate this incredible milestone, our work isn’t over. We’ll keep fighting until every child is safe. ❤️ #BreakingCodeSilence #Survivor #ShutDownPCS #TTI #ISeeYouSurvivor

This Pride Month, we stand with the Queer and Trans youth in the Troubled Teen Industry. At programs like New Haven RTC, LGBTQ+ youth have reported being targeted on the basis of their identity, facing discrimination, harassment, conversion therapy, and other forms of abuse and mistreatment.

This recent NH attendee describes some of the transphobia he faced while at New Haven, and his journey of self acceptance and resilience after leaving.

Amidst ongoing attacks on Trans rights in the U.S., programs like New Haven RTC continue to prey on vulnerable youth.

Queerness does not need to be “fixed.”

Over a decade later, this former NHRTC attendee reflects on her experience at New Haven and the impact it has had on her.

Shame can keep us silent for a long time, but it is possible to reclaim your voice. New Haven Voices aims to question the status quo and protect vulnerable youth at congregate care facilities like NHRTC.

Are you interested in sharing your experience and connecting with others? We invite you to submit art or writing to be included in our anniversary zine. The theme for this zine is “Then and Now.”

This former New Haven RTC attendee was contacted by a staff member from their private Facebook account asking the student to write a Google review about New Haven. While the staff member asks for an “honest” review, they clearly suggest that the only “honest” review is a positive review.

It is a violation of Google terms of service for a business to selectively solicit positive reviews. Additionally, we find it inappropriate and unprofessional for staff members to contact former students from their personal social media accounts.

Have you received similar messages from staff?

The main text box reads “How are you doing these days how is your family? I was wondering if you would be willing to write New Haven and honest review on google? There is a lot of negativity and false information out there that is scaring families away from getting help. And we were hoping we can have some alumni -itis reviews that families could see both sides…..”

“This is an actual message sent to an alumni by a staff member on their private facebook account. As we have covered last time, soliciting reviews is explicitly against Google’s rules.”

Many people use google reviews to help determine if a business they want to go to (or send their kids to..) is reputable. Google has rules about these reviews to make sure they honestly reflect these businesses but sometimes these businesses try to break the rules. Google won’t know about these rule breaking reviews unless we report them. If you see a Google review that violates these guidelines be sure to report it!

Google has rules about the reviews you can leave. Google prohibits fake engagement ‘we do not allow merchants to:
-solicit or encourage the posting of content that does not represent a genuine experience.
-discourage it prohibit negative reviews, or selectively solicit positive reviews from customers.

Google prohibits misrepresentation
‘We do not allow individuals to mislead or deceive others, or make misrepresentations.
-content that is based on a conflict of interest.”

An example of a conflict of interest is if a person leaves a review for a business they are employed at. Keep an eye out for this!
