‼️ Two sweet events this weekend: scroll through for the Chicago deep dish on both 👉

Above: As part of Laurel Hauge’s @laurelhauge work for “Ground Floor” opening Sunday Aug. 9th, I will lead a short workshop/class from 4:30 - 5:30PM around 1.) curating with what you have 2.) curating with relation to everything else 3.) curating for others. We will read an excerpt of a critical text by artist Josh Kline, consider some ideas on approaching expanded notions of curating, and put on an ad-hoc exhibition of our own all on the beautiful lake views of Promontory Point.

👈 happening right after this 👆 lotsa favorites in here

During this class we’ll talk about finding symmetry, visually (and thus ideologically and maybe even curatorially). Examples above:
TOP AND BOTTOM: Patty Prava performing “La Danza Di Zorba” on Italian Variety Show Premiatissima, January 12, 1984; Still from “Draftee Daffy”, 1945, Dir. Bob Clampett; L-R SIDES: Leda Papaconstantinou’s theatrical series, “Bouboulitsa’s Dream,” 2013; Still from TV Transvestite, 1982, Dirs. Michele Capozzi and Simone Di Bagno CENTER: Patssi Valdez, ASCO, “The Universe,” at Evergreen Cemetary, 1974.

@breanne_ & I are putting the band back together: Nancy and the Voids will be performing the hits of Neil Young with you on vocals (and maybe even on instruments?) as part of @betsyodom1 ‘s wonderful event at Berger Park this Friday at 5:45 and again at 7:15PM. Details are 👉

A day of community singing, jamming, and music making. Join in song circles hosted by Chicago musicians Andrea Bunch, Marty Calden, Mark Dvorjak, Chris Reeves with Breanne Trammell, and Betsy Odem. Free - all ages bring your instrument, your voices, and come play!

Full schedule over at @romansusanart

Biggest fans only (like Moe)

Takeaway publications at both event! The seminal street rag on music setlists “Set List” will be yours for the taking on Friday &&&

“Lessons in (Curating (With Care))” is available for all who turn up to participate during the class on Sunday.
Hope to see you!

[FLICKER WARNING]

Take it apart and put it back together. Pull it apart and tape its back, to gather. Tape its part aback and gate tethers: postfix suffused flix & fricative fictions. Order and disorder and rigidity and softness and corners and the spaces outside the lines and the protective margins and the centrality of edges and the way a constellation depends more on where you are than what you’re looking at and how the frame says this part is the (art) and this part is the (world) and how a gas will expand to fill whatever space it’s given and how I make a better door than a window and how you can see where a room will be in another room and whatever balloons are and how the welcome mat at your house can spin however you’d like and how we think so much of the edges of the images but then tape it in parts aback and gate tethers: suffixes posted like misdirection and the edges of the fixative frictions.

A glimpse of the pop-up @design.at.329 with @riverotterchicago personally hosting me. Had a few ups and downs with chemistry but eventually got it straightened out and met a lot of interesting people. Chicago has been good to me. I’m so glad to be here for it✨

Founded in 1909, the Hyde Park Neighborhood Club @hpnclub is a youth-serving community center, trusted neighbor, creative caretaker, and a responsive resource for a vibrant, diverse community.

Farr Associates @farrassociates provided a master plan for the building’s revitalization construction project to get back on track and to ensure the facility will meet not only the moment, but its future programming, operations, and sustainability goals.

📸 It was an inspiring day capturing the space with old and new friends.

We had a great time hanging out with our friends at @farrassociates and many others at @landmarksillinois Preservation Forward event last week. We’re big fans of aggregating moments in time in our work through layers of a building’s life, showing changes made, and we’re happy to support the organization through events and volunteering with the @skyline_council.
