Next challenge loading… #10days

It’s an event where I’m curious about the format and keen to test my limits.
But also an event where the name itself irks the shit out of me.

Because ‘King Of The Hill’ isn’t a title I can win, and already feels less inviting to enter as a female.
And that’s before you even start the conversation on statistically unequal opportunity/likelihood for the bulk of the prize money. I guess at least the name doesn’t pretend otherwise?

As an outside observer so far, most ‘last one standing’ events like this still feel like a man’s world, but thankfully curiosity won out. So for better or worse I’m all in on what I am calling ‘Human Of The Hill’ for myself.

Why human? Royal/Monarch/Boss/King&Queen may fit better for most, but this is as much a mental game as it is physical, and I won’t be out there trying to ‘conquer’ anything or anyone.

I have spent long enough trying to battle with my demons to learn that they make much better dance partners than they do sparring partners.

And the path through obstacles is less about conquering and more about accepting & adapting.

Mostly, I want to show myself what the years of learning, growing & adapting have taught me when it comes to working WITH myself and WITH nature to achieve my best. I look forward to being reduced to my most basic human instincts and thoughts out there - and seeing if I can remain my own best friend, cheer leader, & believer through that.

So I will be out there on that hill thankful for the way it is testing me. I’m not sure how long I can simultaneously dance with the pain, the sleep deprivation, & the curve balls - but I’m excited to try.

Already my brain is searching for every excuse to pull out.
Partly out of fear of not going anywhere near as far as I believe I can.
Partly out of fear of going further.

And mostly because our brains are beautiful things that try to protect us when we do stupid things like this. But half the challenge is reminding ourselves those limits are self made & there to be stretched.

So here’s to stretching my own limits and trying to stretch the women’s record for the hill along the way 🏃🏽‍♀️

Two years ago, I moved from India to Melbourne with one dream to become a better filmmaker.

Over the last two years, Deakin gave me much more than a degree. It gave me lifelong friendships, mentors who believed in me, opportunities to tell stories, and experiences I’ll carry into every film I make.

From directing my debut short film What We Never Said, working on incredible student productions, and creating content for Deakin University, every chapter helped shape the filmmaker I am today.

Thank you to my classmates, lecturers, mentors, the Student Communications team, every cast and crew member, and everyone who made this journey unforgettable.

Here’s to the next chapter. 🎬
