To all the dreamers out there, this one is for you. ✨

Contributing to the magic of Walt Disney has been a lifelong dream of mine. For the past couple of months, I’ve been diving deep into studying classic Disney characters—a journey made so much richer thanks to my mentors, whose constant encouragement keeps me inspired. ✏️

I created this piece as a reminder to myself, and to anyone honing their craft: trust your path. Believing in your work will take you further than you ever imagined. The journey is—and will continue to be—WORTH IT! 🌟

“…You will never fail as long as you continue to strive! Promise.”❤️

Back to the drawing board! ✏️✨ Doing a character study on the one and only Mickey Mouse.

Mickey’s design may look simple at first glance, but capturing his proportions, expressions, and personality just right can be surprisingly challenging. It’s a great reminder that simplicity in character design takes a lot of thought and skill!

Special thanks to @brianblackmoreart for sharing his Mickey Mouse model sheets, which served as inspiration for this study. Be sure to check out his art page it’s filled with pure Disney magic!

This is the book I wrote about in yesterday’s post! I just noticed it was published in Germany in 1965 - that means the original version was probably published before this date! I got this for about 10 bucks when I came to Germany and ever since I noticed this book was very popular among German families in the 60s and 70s! It’s definitely worth having!

My dear friend Brian Blackmore @brianblackmoreart inspires me, and many others, nearly on a daily basis! He and his team have given us some of the most beautiful Disney designs that we can enjoy today among our collections.

Brian sometimes puts his pen to Disney Consumer Products and turns them into something magical, bringing them remarkably close to the original artwork, references and model sheets.

It’s interesting that many designers at Disney, especially in Consumer Products, sometimes didn’t really care about the actual original designs created by masters such as Milt Kahl, Fred Moore, Frank Thomas and many others. Bill Peet’s designs though occasionally made their way into the Disney Golden Books!

Anyway, I’ve been wanting to redesign — or, perhaps better said, practice over — some of the older Disney Products. I recently got myself a vintage Disney children’s knowledge book, published in Germany in 1969. But before I touch that book, I noticed this one on another shelf and decided to post it in the name of Brian!

It’s written by one of the great authorities in our industry, the wonderful Charles Solomon!

These are some expression studies inspired by the award-winning 1984 film Amadeus. During this sketch session, I explored how subtle adjustments to the eyes, brows, mouth, and posture can completely transform a character's personality and emotional state.

One piece of advice that I would like to share comes from Disney character artist Brian Blackmore (@brianblackmoreart) and that is to focus on the eyes when going for appeal. They’re often the first thing we notice and play a vital role in communicating emotion and personality. Once again, thank you Mr. B for sharing this advice!

On my visit to Hollywood, I had the chance to visit the site of Walt Disney’s First Studio on Kingswell Ave in LA. Marine, the amazing proprietor and caretaker of the place not only shared the story of how the locale was rediscovered and saved, but she allowed me the honor of letting me add to her museum of art…and giving @chuckychickencartoons a home in the place where it all began. How’s THAT for a dream come true?

Comic books were my first inspiration to become an illustrator. Neal Adams, Carmine Infantino, Jim Aparo are a few of the incredible artists that inspired me. As I grew older, I found an array of European artists for inspiration. Francois Thomas, Yves Chaland, Serge Clerc and Antonio Lapone introduced me to Ligne Claire. And that brings me to TALES FROM THE BLACK HIWAY. A supernatiral graphic novel I wrote and illustrated set in the 1950s on the back roads of America.
