POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

As a child, I believed burying the truth was the only way to protect my family. So I placed what happened to me inside a box, and carried that box for 50 years.

At the Survivors’ Solidarity March, I stood among so many people who had carried secrets of their own. Our stories were different, but many of us had reached the same chapter: the one where we reclaim the pen and rewrite the ending. We will not remain silent while our ab*sers move through the world protected by the appearance of being one of the “good ones.” Accountability matters. Survivors deserve to be believed, supported, and given the opportunity to pursue justice on their own terms.

This clip is only part of the story.

Continue with me through the full speech at the link in my bio, then explore the carefully curated resources available for survivors, loved ones, and advocates. Your next chapter may begin with one truth, one resource, or the realization that you are not alone.

Tuesday November 24th
Brian Miller
Human Connection Specialist
How to Magically Connect with Anyone
Everyone wants to feel heard, understood and valued. Sure, we live in a divisive age- but the real problem is that we treat interactions as transactions. Yet when we feel truly seen by others we become deeply connected with ourselves, our organization, and our mission. In this session, we will learn what true human connection is, and how to make better and more meaningful connections in our personal and professional lives.
Brian Miller is a former professional magician turned author & speaker on human connection who has shared his magic and message for 18 years across 5 continents. He helps organizations and educators build connected cultures where everyone feels heard, understood, and valued. His TEDx talk, ‘How to Magically Connect with Anyone,’ has 3.6 million views and sparked a global conversation about the importance of human connection. He is also the author of ‘Three New People,’ which Publishers Weekly raved, “brilliantly outlines a system for deepening relationships.”

Brian Miller teaches people how to write a powerful speech whose message will reach its audience in a meaningful way. How? Because you’ve taken the time to understand what they need to hear from you. And yet as a young boy, he fainted when he was called on in class to speak. What a journey that young boy has been on!! Hear more about how you could get there as well!! #publicspeaking #mentalhealth #selfwork #tedx @brianmillerspeaks

There are some people who seem like “old souls” and my guest this week on SelfWork seems like that to me. His name is Brian Miller. We talk about managing the fear of public speaking (the most common phobia of them all!!). But we travel as well inti his experience with what it actually takes to truly connect with others. And to make a “dent in the universe.” Join us!! #fear #publicspeaking #mentalhealth #podcast @brianmillerspeaks

This is how I chose to begin my speech at the Survivors’ Solidarity March, with the truth.

My two older brothers were supposed to protect me. Instead, they s*xually ab*sed me from the ages of 7 to 12 and used warnings or threats to convince me that no one would believe me if I spoke. Although this is my story, the fear, shame, and enforced silence are painfully familiar to many survivors of sibling s*xual tra*ma and ab*se and other forms of ab*se.

The full version of my speech is now available to watch through the link on my website. If you feel comfortable, I invite you to share what this message brings up for you, but please remember that no survivor ever owes anyone their story.

You can also help by sharing this Reel with someone who may need to know they are not alone or find resources for support through the link in my bio.

The march may have ended, but the message is still moving.

A recent press release is helping carry my Survivors’ Solidarity March address beyond Washington, D.C., highlighting the silence surrounding sibling s*xual trauma and ab*se, the legal retaliation survivors can face for sharing their stories, and the urgent need for stronger safeguards like the Speak Your Truth Act.

As I shared from the stage, speaking up is important, but it is not enough. We must also change the systems that allow perpetrators to use defamation lawsuits to silence and traumatize survivors all over again.

Visit the link in my bio to watch my full speech, learn more about this work, and help keep the conversation moving forward.

I don’t think I’ve ever been so confident when I’m about to do something I’ve never done before! Next week I’ll be presenting at the @momentumbuilderdg conference in Dallas along with @alexanderjvarela, @neenavlamis, and @pocketjs, on the research study which has consumed this second half of the year. And I’ve never given a talk before in my life!

Yesterday I finished my final prep call with @brianmillerspeaks, after working with him and his team @clarityup and I must say that I was absolutely right to sign up with them right after I met Brian at the @forward.usa event in July. Not only was following their process and having their guidance a massive help, what I learned from my time with Brian and his partner Francisco, I’ll use in so many other ways moving forward.

Grateful to Brian, Fransisco, and excited to present with Nina, Alex, and Jason next week and give the best talk of the entire event!

Can you say what you do in one sentence?
Can you explain your process in a simple framework?

We talk about “connection” all the time, but what does it actually mean?

For everyone, it looks a little different. What makes one person feel connected might not work for another.

But underneath it all, there’s something we all want:

To feel valued 💭
