A huge congratulations to @bovenbouw.architectuur for the shortlisting of their Cadix Palazzo apartment building in Antwerp for the @erichmendelsohnpreis

The building is part of a significant development in the northern part of this fantastic city around the old docks. The gently scalloped elevation is exquisite and is supported, for the eagle-eyed, on concrete columns with an elliptical section. It rather appeals to the baroque fan in me!

Robert Flello at the @brick.development.association explores how clay bricks combine tradition with design flexibility, offering architects greater freedom.

Few materials have shaped the built environment as profoundly as clay brick. Recognisable across centuries of construction, it embodies continuity, reliability, and a deep connection with place. Yet brick is not simply a relic of tradition – it is a material evolving to meet the needs of modern design, environmental responsibility, and ambitious architectural expression.

As attention increasingly focuses on sustainable practices and the principles of circularity, clay brick offers a particularly compelling narrative. Formed from natural resources, designed for longevity, and reusable at the end of a building’s life, it is a material that contributes meaningfully to a low-impact built environment. Just as importantly, innovation in manufacturing and product range provides new avenues for creativity, allowing clay brick to remain both timeless and forward looking.

✨ Robert Flello at the @brick.development.association explores how clay bricks combine tradition with design flexibility, offering architects greater freedom.

✨ Bradley Hirst of @knaufinsulationuk explains why designers must uplift thermal standards ahead of the Future Homes Standard, to futureproof homes.

✨ David Patrick from @dimplexfires explains why key decisions around heating, hot water and comfort cooling must now be considered holistically at the masterplanning stage – including electricity load implications.

✨ Laura Light at @Interface explains how incorporating biophilic design in workplaces which goes beyond just planting can not only promote wellbeing for staff, but also nurture productivity for clients.

Take a look at this beautiful new build completed around 15 years ago using our range of Handmade Bricks! Russell’s House, Hertfordshire (APR)
The main house was originally constructed in the 18th century in Watford, this stunning piece of history was devastated by fire in the late 80s, remaining derelict for almost 10 years before being purchased by City and Country. A blend of Guestling Red and Waverley Orange bricks was used to rebuild this prestigious property and additional houses. This has since won awards such as What House? Bronze award for best development and the Evening Standard New Homes Award for best new development. Whether your project is large or small we are able to help, please get in touch with a member of our dedicated team to dicusss your builds requirements in more detail. ✋🏼🇬🇧🧱 #handmadebrick #brickearth #architecture #britishbanter #craftsmanship
