I'm admittedly not very harsh with my ratings BUT I know I have great taste 😤

Here are some recent 5-star reads (for me) and some that I'm currently reading/starting soon and predict will be 5-star worthy. King Sorrow has been my favorite book of the year since June but I thiiiink Babel has at least tied at this point 👀

Thanks so much @books.are.neat for tagging me! If I didn't tag you, it's because my brain is mush. I'm so nosy and want to know all your opinions.

This month’s read with Beautifully Unwell Bookclub on Fable and man oh man… this was intense.

To say “Hell is a teenage girl” is the understatement of the year when it comes to these characters, especially Fernanda and Annelise. Mix in some friends who don’t have much of a backbone, parents who like to either turn a blind eye or are over-religious, and the cherry on top - a teacher at their school who has a past (and her own mental issues) JUST as bad - if not worse - then these girls.

Did you ever see the movie KIDS or even THIRTEEN? Think of those two movies , but throw in dashes of THE CRAFT and Norman Bates from Psycho.

It was uneasy to listen to , but I like feeling uncomfortable at times. Ojeda’s writing is not for the faint of heart, and puberty is a scary enough thing to experience, so writing about it with grit and venom make it that the more jarring.

It was twisted, it was intense, it was shocking and repulsive at times, but it also touched on friendships and love and familial values and how all 3 of those things shape who we are at a young age.

Maybe none of this makes sense, but my brain is still recovering from this one. Let’s yap about it because I hope I’m not the only one.

💬have you read this yet? xx Jessica

That’s a wrapppppp

Started out this month strong but big life changes came thru for the win so reading took a back seat the second half of the month.

The next month will be hectic too so audiobooks are holding strong for the current moment

💬 WHAT SHOULD I READ BEFORE THE END OF THE YEAR?!

ps fun fact: i grew up listening to billy joel tapes whenever we'd go on a family trip. when he started playing at MSG, me and my family went to see him and we cried like babies. i've seen him 3 times since and feel like that's one thing checked off the bucket list. needless to say, one of my fav shirts from one of the concerts on the day we bought our house. Dad would be proud

How was everyone's weekend?

Yes, I gathered the first red maple leaves and shamelessly piled them for this photo!

We pumpkin patched and I might have gone a little wild picking out pumpkins and gourds! I decorate with them in October, then split them with an axe in November and feed them to the deer (although the deer already snagged one off the porch and chomped into it last night🤣).

Got the outdoor Halloween decor up, too which involves a bunch of skeletons posed under the trees with tombstones

I'd love to see some seasonal colors. Tagged some people for a Halloween stack, but feel free to jump in!

I personally genuinely enjoy seeing these posts for several reasons, most selfishly because I’ve found so many great accounts to follow but also because I feel the love on Bookstagram 🖤 this is part showing off accounts whose content I truly think is AMAZING and wanting to help others with similar book tastes find their accounts, part THANK YOU to all of these folks for inspiring me, hyping me up, and making me feel so welcome on here my first 6 weeks!

I can only tag 20 accounts in a post but here’s the accounts on the final slides:
