Only took me over a week to post Rich’s dreamy and unique multimedia reading event at the Rabbit Box with an underwater video backdrop, 3 interesting, peaceful musical acts… two paired w his readings which centered on two sides’ take on the possibly impending war with humans. It was a pleasure! Get a copy at brightspiderpress.com ;)

I caught Rich Simon on his @brightspiderpress book tour at @mercurycafe in San Francisco last night for his debut novel The Dolphin Ambassador’s Daughter. Songwriters @marika_christine and @serafimmmaaa opened the show with original songs and writings that set the tone really beautifully for the night & then Rich read an excerpt from his book with an upright acoustic bass accompanyist. (Paul, if you see this: I didn’t catch your last name but you blew my mind! Especially when the bow came out…)

Rich was the reader for my senior thesis project when I was finishing my Bachelors degree in creative writing & it’s really thrilling to see what he’s been working on since then. @brightspiderpress has links to order the book (which you should!) but I would encourage you to try and catch them at one of the last couple tour stops along the coast while you can. It was trippy and brilliant and captivating & September 18th you’ll have the chance to see them at @theecologycenter in San Juan Capistrano. ✨🐬🌊🫍✨

Hi everyone! This Friday at The Ecology Center I’ll be playing mostly original set of music that I’ve written inspired by Richard B. Simon’s new novel, The Dolphin Ambassador’s Daughter. It’s been an interesting experience writing this set of music and so much fun to perform 🥰 Here’s a snippet of the opening of my set that I snapped in the Redwoods this morning - I start it off with a little bit of a My Bubba song called Our Water Hours and then go into a song about the inevitability of things once spoken or thought… and then some:) After my set, Isaiah Mitchell will play some music, also inspired by the book, and Rich will read while Isaiah accompanies him. I think it’s going to be a really great night!

Some words from Richard B. Simon, author of The Dolphin Ambassador’s Daughter.

A night of Good Medicine in the Peace Dome.

More than a reading. A world to step into.

Next Friday, author Richard B. Simon brings The Dolphin Ambassador’s Daughter to the Peace Dome for a live reading from his ecological fantasy novel.

Alongside him, Isaiah Mitchell + Serafima will perform music inspired by the story, creating a soundtrack as the night unfolds. And somewhere along the way, the line between reading a story and being inside of one gets a little blurry.

Part reading. Part live music. Quite otherworldly.

🌞⏳ EARLY event Tuesday 9/15 at 7 pm‼️ 📚Bright Spider Press presents ✍️Richard B. Simon reading from his new novel 📖The Dolphin Ambassador’s Daughter (a 🏆PEN/America Literary Award finalist), featuring performances by and with ❄️WINTER BAND (🌲NorCal supergroup of rotating members) and ⭐️SERAFIMA (Seattle, “electrifying classic elements of The Golden Age of Radio, honky tonk, and Russian folk”)❗️

“After a catastrophic oil spill, the Whales respond with war...” Richard B. Simon’s debut novel is a green fable in the vein of Watership Down, Animal Farm, The Lord of the Rings, and The Odyssey, and is inspired by language-rich fiction from the likes of Chinua Achebe, Louise Erdrich, and Toni Morrison. The epic story of an Orca who wants to start a war against the Humans, and a Dolphin who is determined to prevent one. The novel deals with the pursuit of political change through violent or nonviolent means; with prejudice, genocide, and the intergenerational trauma inflicted by industrial human civilization on all life.

🕰️Bar opens at 5pm for 🌮Taco Tuesday. Performances after 7pm.
