Three friends. Three taildraggers. Three landings.

A Cessna 185, a KitFox MK4 and our Aviat Husky A1-B, all dropping into a rather bumpy farm strip in the East Midlands. Three very different aeroplanes in size, power and design, but they share the things that matter: a tailwheel at the back and pilots who love the backcountry.

The reason for the visit? A cuppa and cake at the farm, obviously.

✈️ When someone starts speaking fluent AVIATION… and you’re still on Duolingo Level 1. 😂

“So, if you’re compensating for adverse yaw with coordinated rudder input whilst maintaining optimum L/D, you’ll need to account for the induced drag coefficient, particularly as you approach the critical angle of attack…”

Me: “Yeah… absolutely… completely agree.” 😎👍

Nodding confidently like I’ve got 20,000 flying hours and used to test fly Concorde.

Meanwhile, my brain has lost all communication with Air Traffic Control, the instruments have look upside down and I’m considering an emergency landing. 🚨😂

Eventually, I’ve reached that age where I can confidently say:

“Mate, I haven’t understood a single word you’ve said since you opened your mouth.” 🤣

But here’s the thing…

That’s exactly what Heights of Possibility is all about. ✈️

You don’t have to understand every technical term, know what every instrument does, or speak fluent pilot to belong in aviation or conservation across the Sahara.

Sometimes the first step towards something extraordinary is simply having the courage to say “I haven’t got a clue… but I’d love to learn.”

Because at Heights of Possibility, we believe conservation and aviation shouldn’t just be for those who already know the language. It should be for anyone with the curiosity to discover it, the courage to try, and the ambition to see how far they can go.

You don’t need to know what L/D means to discover that the sky isn’t your limit and that you can work to protect the planet and people from the sky. 💙

Although knowing which way the aircraft is pointing is probably a good start. 😂✈️

Engine failure at 1500ft. 😳 Identify the wind. Pick a field. Put out a MAYDAY. Make the aircraft safe… and then hopefully don’t crash. 💥

Don’t panic, this one is simulated, but I’ve had a real one before when flying solo. Anyone else? And if not, would you know what to do? 👀

Air to Air photoshoot for a feature in October’s Microlight Flying magazine about the Savannah SR microlight as it makes its debut in the UK. Shooting from another microlight, doors open, the wide angle doesn’t really convey just how close the two aircraft in formation were to each other!

This should be a spectator sport- dead stick landings on to a predetermined marked out spot for points. Epic to watch. A simply smashing weekend of aviation , kararoke and catching up with a great bunch of people. If carlsberg did flying clubs St Michael’s airfield is a serious contender -so which airfield or club gets your recommendation?
