What’s good, neighbors? Tomorrow, WE BLACK OUTSIDE IN PINK! 🎀

We’re teaming up with our fellow neighborhood partners at Black Girl Cancer Club @blackgirlcancerclubpodcast for an easy community hike in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

Bring your mamas, aunties, sisters, friends, and anybody else who wants to get outside and show their support. Just make sure you’re wearing PINK!

This is an easy, 2.2-mile hike that should take about 1.5 hours or less. Everyone is welcome, but please keep in mind that there are some slight inclines and changes in terrain, so strollers are not recommended.

Here’s what you need to know:

💕 Breast cancer can change the way you see yourself. It can impact your self-esteem and force you to relearn who you are, inside and out. But throughout my journey, my sister has been right there, reminding me how beautiful I am, how good I look, and how much I am still ME! 🩷🎀

No matter where I am or what I’m going through, she’s always got my back. Her love, encouragement, and support have meant more to me than words can express. 🥹💗

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I just want to remind my sister how much I LOVE and APPRECIATE her for being my cheerleader, my support system, and my sister through it all. Thank you for helping me see my beauty even on the days I struggled to see it myself. I love you forever! 🩷🎀

An incredibly intimate and powerful stop on our Under the Sisterhood DocuArt™️ Tour, gathered in the home of our dear sister Seema @addictedtospice

We watched.
We listened.
We talked.
We shared.
And we enjoyed quality time with each other.

I left with a very full cup and so much gratitude.

Seema, thank you for opening your beautiful home and your heart to us, and for creating such a warm space to experience the Under the Sisterhood DocuArt™️ film and @underthehoodofbreasthealth together.

To my family, @being.georgia, Chris, Rachel, @maxe20, and @sam_elfenbein, having you there meant more than you know. And to @dixielincolnnichols and @reinventionrebels Wendy, thank you for continuing to show up for this work, and for me, with so much heart.

As we move from city to city, I keep witnessing something I never could have fully imagined when we began.

The ripple effect.

One woman shares her story.
Someone else recognizes herself in it.
A conversation begins.
A connection is made.
Someone else feels permission to use her voice.
And the circle keeps growing.

It doesn’t matter whether there are 15 people in a living room or hundreds in a room. What matters is what happens when we come together and truly listen to one another.

Until it happens to you, breast cancer can feel like someone else’s story.

Then suddenly, you are learning a new language.

Making decisions you never imagined
making. Asking questions you never thought you would need to ask.

For younger people, there can be another layer: I thought I was too young.

And after treatment, there are often questions no one prepared you for.

What happens now?
What does survivorship actually look like?
How do I trust my body again?
Who am I after all of this?

These are the stories we need to hear too.

Because breast cancer is not one experience, and survivorship is not one experience.

Every person deserves the space to tell us what it was actually like for them.

Under the Hood of Breast Health

San Francisco, you filled our hearts.

There was something incredibly special about bringing the Under the Sisterhood DocuArt™ Experience to The Women’s Building.

Everything about being there was intentional.

A building created to give women space, voice, community, and power. And within it, the Audre Lorde Room, named for a woman whose own experience with breast cancer became part of her writing, activism, and insistence that women speak their truths.

It was there that we screened our Under the Sisterhood film, a film about reclaiming women’s voices, and officially launched @underthehoodofbreasthealth , our new platform bringing together the lived experiences and perspectives of people, clinicians, and experts across the breast health and breast cancer journey, with a particular focus on those diagnosed under 50.

The place. The room. The film.
The platform. It all connected.

But what I keep thinking about most is what happened between all of those moments.

The connections.

Women came from across the Bay Area, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., New York and beyond. Survivors found one another. Clinicians listened to patients. Advocates shared what they are fighting to change. Women who had never met exchanged stories that somehow felt familiar.

Our beautiful panel with Teyonna Bowman @pausitiveoutlook , our Head of Advocacy & Engagement and host of Under the Hood of Breast Health, and @britmull , founder of @blackgirlcancerclubpodcast , opened up an honest conversation about navigating breast cancer at a younger age, advocating for yourself, finding community, and using what you have lived through to make the path better for someone coming behind you.

And when the program was supposed to end, people stayed.

They kept talking. Listening. Sharing. Connecting.

Finding one another.
We almost couldn’t close the room.
Maybe that is what I will remember most.
