February was packed with unforgettable IRiS events and each one was a tremendous success!

We kicked things off with The World According to Sound (@thewatsound), where Chris Hoff and Sam Harnett transformed the Patricia Corbett Theater into an immersive audio environment. With a full house and an engaged audience, the evening showcased the power of sound in a truly unique and memorable way. Earlier that day, their What’s the Point? workshop brought faculty and postdocs together for a dynamic media training session, offering practical tools and fresh strategies for translating academic research to broader audiences. Special thanks to the @trc_uc for taking the lead on hosting and coordination, and to @uc_artsci and @uc_ccm for their additional support in making these events possible.

Our February IRiS Alloy, “Multisensoriality, Longing, and Art”, in collaboration with the @cincyartmuseum, welcomed a vibrant crowd to the Cincinnati Art Museum for a rich, participatory conversation. With an incredible lineup of artists, scholars, and community voices, the discussion sparked thoughtful dialogue and meaningful connections across disciplines.

We sustained the momentum in partnership with @cincyartmuseum through IRiS FieldTrip, “Longing and the Multisensory Museum”. This immersive experience invited attendees into guided explorations of the special exhibition and permanent collection, creating space for deeper engagement and fresh perspectives.

Thank you to our collaborators, speakers, and community members who made these events so impactful. We’re grateful for the energy, curiosity, and conversations that made each gathering a success!

You’re invited to the 23rd IRiS Alloy, titled “Multisensoriality, Longing, and Art” on Thursday, February 19 from 6-8 pm in the Great Hall at the Cincinnati Art Museum. IRiS Alloys are adventurous, participatory discussions where people from diverse viewpoints meet to wander together in conversation on a topic related to sensing or perception. As always, IRiS Alloys are free and open to the public. Join us and contribute your thoughts and ideas as we talk about how art engages with the senses, and how this is related to emotional impact, memory, and longing.

Joining us will be Britni Bicknaver

This particular Alloy was co-developed with Dr. Ainsley Cameron, Curator of South Asian Art, Islamic Art, and Antiquities and Sara Birkofer, Associate Director of Accessibility and Wellness Programs at the Cincinnati Art Museum, and designed as a companion program to the recently opened special exhibit titled "Longing: Painting from the Pahari Kingdoms of the Northwest Himalayas", which guests can view before the start of the conversation. Joining us will be art therapist Charlotte Reed from Art Equals, architect, designer, and artist Nandita Baxi Sheth, multimedia artist and educator Britni Bicknaver, and poet and essayist Preeti Parikh.
