I wish I could stop time and live in the euphoria of Wednesday night forever, especially as the horrific world news intensifies. Queering the Canon: Sondheim presented by @ringofkeysorg was so epic in scope and so special!!!! There were 9 original songs commissioned by Ring of Keys, written by our Key songwriters, that paired with 9 Sondheim tunes. 27 performers! A four-piece band. ALL OF WHICH WERE KEYS! Some artists got to make their Joe's Pub debut and all were paid. As the producer who conceived this series, getting to provide this opportunity to so many makes my heart burst. So many spoke of gratitude for the chance to perform for the first time in 2 years. One artist told me it was one of the best nights of their entire life. Another artist said they have never felt more seen or supported. 😭

This was a stellar team of artists: working with my dear friend Julianne B. Merrill as MD is a gift because I can always trust we're in good hands. Getting to know director Ann James was another gift! Obsessed with her and grateful to @katielindsay11 for the intro. Ann brought an energy to the project that was infectious.

Thank you to our SM @br3ak_a_l3g who managed the puzzle of scheduling rehearsals for 30+ freelancers and their schedules. NOT EASY. Thank you to @glitterbo87 and Patchmaster Productions for stepping in and building our beautiful visuals!

Thank you to all of the performers & musicians who showed up, delivered, and brought the house down. SO MUCH TALENT IN THIS COMMUNITY.

Never thought we could sell out a Wednesday night at 9:30pm in a pandemic over a week in advance, BUT WE DID. And when Texas passes a bill that says affirming your trans child is grounds for child abuse?! WTF. A reminder we need to be affirming trans and queer humans now more than ever. There's one final show in this series to support: Queering the Canon: Kander & Ebb on March 8th. Link in bio.

Finally, and in keeping with our director Ann's horticultural motif from the night: some folks had tried to drag and bury me and my brainchild... guess they didn't know I was a seed. ONWARD WE BLOOM. 🌼
