Fitzroy Quarter by Milieu (Coming Soon) Fitzroy Quarter, a new design neighbourhood in Melbourne’s inner north, where Fitzroy, Collingwood, Clifton Hill and Fitzroy North meet. We asked some of the people contributing to the project what they think makes a good neighbourhood… Here, Lou Weis from Broached Commissions talks about how the beauty of medium-density living is that you share the circadian rhythms of human life with a 360-degree breathing, living, circulating population. As your day rises, so does the building. As your day declines, so does the building. Collection Spotlight | @broached__recall A study in design history, materiality and the relationship between past and present. Developed by Australian design studio @broached_commissions, Broached Recall explores the intersection of historical craftsmanship and contemporary furniture design. Working with graphic designer John Warwicker, the collection translates bold geometric patterns into sculptural forms, combining heritage timber veneers, contrasting grains and intricate detailing. At KFive, our curated selection includes the Small and Medium Monoliths, alongside the limited-edition Large Monolith: Fidele Luce. Each piece brings together expressive veneer compositions, precise craftsmanship and cleverly concealed storage. Fitzroy Quarter by Milieu (Coming Soon) We’re pleased to introduce Fitzroy Quarter, a new neighbourhood in Melbourne’s inner north, where Fitzroy, Collingwood, Clifton Hill and Fitzroy North meet. Shaped through design at every scale, Fitzroy Quarter brings together architecture, landscape and local life as part of one connected whole. The project has been developed with a collective of local architects, landscape designers and collaborators, each bringing a different perspective to how a neighbourhood might be lived in. Sydney, you came to the forest. 🌲 On Saturday, our Surry Hills showroom opened its doors for @saturdayindesign, welcoming the design community into HALTIJA, our celebration of Finnish design, forest and folklore. At the heart of the day was Forest to Form, bringing together Johanna Vuorio and Jenni Mikkonen of @nikarioy, Erna Walsh of KFive and Ben Edwards of @studio_edwards, guided by Marika Haromo of @gentonarchitecture, for a conversation spanning timber, tradition, craftsmanship and the relationship between design and landscape. Around them, the forest came to life. Nikari furniture sat amongst trees and moss, alongside @marimekko textiles, @helenkontouris Petra Collection and works by @broached_commissions, while the showroom filled with conversation, Finnish-inspired food and our wider design community. After months of imagining, planning and making, it was very special to see HALTIJA filled with people. Thank you to everyone who stepped into the forest with us. What a weekend. 🌲 We kicked off @saturdayindesign on Friday evening with an intimate preview of HALTIJA, bringing together friends of KFive and our design community to celebrate 25 years of KFive, Finnish design, and our longstanding relationship with @nikarioy. It was particularly special to welcome Johanna Vuorio and Jenni Mikkonen from Nikari to Sydney from Finland and share the forest with them. Thank you to everyone who joined us. • IN THE PRESS• Okay... this is the one I’ve been teasing. In the latest issue of @bellemagazineau you’ll find SIX whole pages created in collaboration with @kingliving shot at our home, The View. And this one brings me a LOT of joy. The challenge? Taking a brand with its own established design language and weaving it into mine ~ without either losing its voice. I wanted the King pieces to feel like they had always belonged here. Woven amongst vintage finds, Australian art, pieces Pat and I have made, collected objects, rich timber, muddy colours, pattern and texture. Nothing screaming SHOWROOM! Everything becoming another layer in our story. Like a bloody good lasagne, it’s the layers that create the richness. Before interiors, I spent six years as an Art Director in advertising, and that brain never left. I’m still thinking about narrative, composition, brand, colour and the hundreds of tiny decisions that make something feel unmistakably you ~ weave that with my design language and you have some serious MAGIC ✨ My colour. My layering. My curation. My voice. And seeing that point of view ~ something I’ve spent years developing, refining and learning to trust ~ across SIX PAGES of Belle feels pretty bloody special. A huge thank you to the beautiful teams at @bellemagazineau and @kingliving for trusting me to do what I do & share that with your audiences. A little discourse on Collectible Design, and why it deserves far more than a supporting role. Earlier this week, I joined Rachael Fry of @cgallerycontemporary for a conversation (moderated by @louweis of @broached_commissions)  exploring the increasingly blurred line between art and design, the objects we choose to live with, and what makes something worthy of collecting. Fittingly, we gathered amongst the work of @elliotbastianon whose current exhibition, Analogue and Alchemy at C.Gallery provided a compelling backdrop for a conversation about materiality, making and the value we place on objects. Gulinj-al Ngulu Kerr-up-non Biik-u (The Voice of Kulin Country) pays tribute to the languages of the Kulin Nation, spoken across Australia’s south-east coast for tens of thousands of years before British settlement. Maree Clarke conceived the film to formalise the deep entwinement of language, agriculture, hunting, art and Country central to First Nations cultures. Of the 250 Indigenous languages once spoken across Australia, nearly wiped out through colonial policy and culminating in the Stolen Generations, only a handful remain today. In the film, branches pay tribute to the 38 languages spoken across what’s now Victoria, alongside gumnuts, seeds, quills, teeth, feathers and ochre standing in for the broader Kulin Nation ecosystem. Rendered in contemporary 3D technology, the work lifts these objects out of an anthropological frame and connects Country and culture to mixed media art. Hypnotic and circular, it conveys the equilibrium with environment at the heart of Kulin Nation land use.
