Hi all, on the occasion of the recent etchings produced with @marta.editions, I’ll be giving a talk about my art practice and its relationship to writing at month’s end.

If you like words and suns and resting and yes, butts in and beyond Florence, join us @marta.losangeles on the 30th. It’s free and open to the public with a RSVP link to come in the next few days.

Doors at 6:30 with seated presentation at 7 (drinks too!)
Free and open to the public at Marta HQ, 3021 Rowena Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90039

Sun print is from a mail art project made with @brodyalbert and @banana_kul in 2022.

ID: A bright yellow drawing of a sun is printed on a white letter-sized envelope. Its thin, slightly wiggly rays circle a happy face, just two eyes and a smile, that looks up and to the left. On the bottom left of the envelope are four lines of my handwriting in black, which share details of an upcoming artist talk. Auction Fundraiser 2025

Reception: April 26th from 5pm - 8pm

On view at BEST PRACTICE and online (link in bio)

April 22nd - 26th
Gallery Hours 11am - 4pm

Funds raised through this event will help support some exciting programming we have planned for the future. Next year marks our 10-year anniversary—and we truly wouldn’t be here without the incredible community that has supported us every step of the way. What started as a small bulletin-board gallery has grown into something beyond what we ever imagined, and we’re so grateful to share this with you.

Local winning bidders may collect their artwork at the auction closing reception or arrange for pickup at a later date. Please note that shipping costs for deliveries outside San Diego will be the responsibility of the winning bidder.

Cash donations are appreciated and can be made at: https://bestpractice.betterworld.org/campaigns/best-practice-donation-fundraise

Brian Wills, Helen Pashgian, and Brody Albert’s works are featured next to each other in Coping with Paradise at OCHI, Idaho. Join us at the gallery tomorrow evening, December 27th, from 4-7 PM for a reception!

Working with single strand poly thread, Brian Wills creates works that focus on color, motion, texture, and depth to affect perception through various color pairings. Untitled (spectral vertical horizon) (2024) is from a series in which Wills considers the thread as paint. A closer look reveals the voice of the process and materials to concentrate on the opticality of the horizon and spectral perspectives that create depth.

Brody Albert explores the dynamic relationship between objects and social interaction, examining how objects influence and are influenced by the people and environments around them.

Helen Pashgian’s 1997 epoxy works are part of her larger exploration into the perception of light and space. These works, made from translucent and highly polished epoxy resin, create a mesmerizing interaction between material, light, and viewer.

Looking for weekend plans? Come visit “Half-Life” at the Mackey Apartments Garage Top Gallery, open Saturdays and Sundays from 11AM—5PM.

“Half-Life” whiplashes timeframes from the prehistoric past, to an unknown distant future, taking resolve in the present. In this exhibition, Katrin Hornek and Brody Albert utilize research-based processes to make poetic works analyzing natural histories, real estate, and nuclear geographies. Both artists weave together these threads drawing connections to the proliferation of property development in Los Angeles with the city’s military industry and the collisions that this entailed.
