Saturday 4: the patron saint of Bomarzo is St Anselm, but not The St Anselm. This one is a local saint who was the bishop of Bomarzo in the 5th century AD. Biscotti di Sant’ Anselmo (they look more like a doughnut or a bun than a biscuit) commemorate his custom of giving sweet bread to the poor and to pilgrims on their way to Rome. We didn’t see any today but we did see shrines and statues, and his relics, carefully dressed in white silk, in the Duomo. He is clearly remembered with affection. #rome #bomarzo #santanselmo

Saturday 2: after a morning of monsters you need a good lunch. Luckily Alfredo had booked table at L’Etrusca - a truly excellent restaurant in Bomarzo. This was our antipasto, followed by lamb with artichokes, and a dreamy tortino of orange and ricotta ( greedily devoured before any photos could be taken). The last photo is an aerial view of the restaurant from a higher level of the town. #rome #bomarzo #pranzo #antipasto #bellavista #ukraine letrusco

Saturday 1: what better way to spend a grey but not cold spring Saturday than to go with dear friends to a surreal 16th century sculpture garden crammed with follies. The creation of Vicino Orsini, the Parco dei Mostri is surreal and fascinating: full of dragons, bears, grotesques and plays on Renaissance sculptures. #rome #parcodeimostri #bomarzo #grotesque #mannerism #bomarzo #sacrobosco

lovely Australian author and BFF @brontejacksonwriter came to visit the Surface and Depth exhibition today! Sadly I was trapped in a zoom meeting but the equally lovely Olga @teksheva took this photo for me. We are blown away by the enthusiasm for this exhibition - so many people visiting every day, so much interest in textile art. Thanks to our amazing publicist Stefania Vaghi for making Surface and Depth of one Rome Art Week’s most talked-about shows! #romeartweek2021 #romeartweek #surfaceanddepth #societyofembroideredwork #amazonwardrobe #textileart #feministart #wearableart #rome

Armchair travel, folks? These two fabulous books by my school friend Bronté Jackson are funny, interesting and honest. In Ticket For One, Bronté talks about going through a very dark time in her life and then winning a six-week holiday in the Greek islands. She describes the ensuing adventure - both her physical travels and the emotional journey - with heart, an observant eye and insight. Bronté falls in love with the Mediterranean. Her journey through Greece, Turkey and Italy culminates in Rome, where she stops to work and meets the man who becomes the love of her life - as described in Roman Daze!

If you are itching to travel and can’t, these tales will provide an excellent option. Warning: Eat with Mediterranean nibbles on hand.
