Coming up Saturday, September 14 at 500 Annex!

'A World in a Picture: Selected Portraits from Past and Present', a solo exhibition by Brooke Opie.

About the show:

“Each friend represents a world in us, a world not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born.” - Anaïs Nin

Life often feels like a capricious journey filled with chance meetings and unexpected roads. Despite my often cynical nature, I choose to meet people as friends. Over the last twenty years I have had the pleasure of photographing these friends.

Some I have known for decades--like Marianne, who remembers the night I was born. Others I have known for just one conversation--Dylan and Cameron agreed to a portrait after we met at a photobooth as strangers and bonded over our shared love for analog cameras. There are classmates, co-workers, chosen family. Each portrait contains an entire world, an invitation to a journey.

About the artist:

Dallas artist Brooke Opie is a photographer and illustrator working in a variety of media, including ink, watercolor, and digital drawing. Opie received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from Texas Woman's University.

An opening reception for 'A World in a Picture: Selected Portraits from Past and Present' will be held Saturday, September 14 from 6-9pm.
