POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

The end of summer is here with the Fall Equinox on Sept 22nd but we have one last feature from our ‘We Outside’ SHOUTOUT series that highlights how Members spent their summers.

MEET MARIBEL MARMOLEJO REYES, @marimarmolejos
She / Her, Brooklyn, NY

With more of an observational approach, Maribel often focuses her lens on themes of the Mexican American/Mexican experience in New York City. Representation can only go so far, she is hoping for better alternative ways filmmaking can help and aid the community on a floor level while also challenging the hierarchy in and out of film sets.

SOW: What's your favorite childhood summer memory?

MARIBEL: My favorite summer memory from my childhood was playing with la pompa across the corner with my cousins with a bucket full of water balloons.

SOW: Describe your perfect summer day.

MARIBEL: A perfect summer day looks like bike riding at night with my speaker fully charged.

Swipe through to learn more about Maribel, @marimarmolejos, her work, her favorite food and more!

“Come on round here, son, I got something that’ll settle your stomach…”

Harper Lee
To Kill A Mockingbird

To insist, resist, above all to love!!!

As 2025 comes to an end, please allow me to share one of my true and most cherished highlights:

¡Te Amo Porque S.O.S. Pueblo! at Bronx Art Space, with the help of so many community members/friends/familia, brought together the work of artists who arrived in the country as undocumented minors, alongside pieces by their immigrant artist friends and others. More than an art exhibition, it was an immigrant portal.

Organized by Maria Ponce, Marco Saavedra and Blanka Amezkua

Participating Artists: Letty, Ruddy, Odalys, Itzi, Rigo, Gabriel, Marco, Alejandra, Aurelio, Elena, Mary, Cristian, Niceli, Talita, Odette, Katherine, Leslie, Dialekto, Jose Luis, Daniela, Sonia, Maria, MaryJose, Zenaida, Paulina, Margarita, Eufemia, Eugenia, Erika, Patricia, Cinthya, Tammy, Alexis, Blanka

The exhibition is moving and appearing in different spaces, it will continue to travel until the end of this presidential administration. It is currently at Spongies Café in Chinatown until January 20, 2026…we hope you will stop by to feel and share the love because there's so much more to come in 2026!!! Please join us!!

¡TE AMO PORQUE S.O.S. PUEBLO…PORQUE TUS MANOS HACEN CADA DIA EL MUNDO.! Marco Saavedra

Y AQUÍ LE DEJO PORQUE SIGUE LA CUMBIA!!! Feliz 2026!!

Maria (Stills) Maribel Marmolejo Reyes, 2025

Maribel Marmolejo Reyes @brooklynpuma assembles archival footage from Mexico and Brooklyn to present Maria, an experimental documentary that centers the labor of mothers within the family nucleus. The film serves as a tribute, in that engages with themes of sacrifice, joy, grief, and the emotional labor of caretaking. caretaking labor. Through this intimacy, Reyes honors the resilience of motherhood while exposing the burdens placed on women under systems that rely on their unrecognized work for survival. –Curator, @jas.pinturas

On View: July 19th - August 17th

Open Sat & Sun, 1-6p and by appointment @transmitternyc

Herencia Viviente: Living Inheritance is a group exhibition featuring @anacelismartinez, @xicanayork, @katmiranda_ink, @earthykai, @lupitalacrimosa, and @brooklynpuma. The artists included in Herencia Viviente: Living Inheritance, resist the status quo and form records of preservation through their framing and particular utilization of collage, photography, and film. The showcased artworks function as a type of community care; one that uplifts the lives and labor of women - a window of reality too often undervalued or overlooked.

Thank you all for coming out and showing us your love and support!

◼️◼️◼️

It’s officially been a week since opening night, and I’ve taken some time to process and reflect on this project. This was my first time curating an exhibition of this scale, and I’ve learned so much, from art handling to writing a press release!

Huge shoutout to @evamayha for being so generous and taking the time to teach me what it means to be a curator, I seriously appreciate you! And shoutout to all the artists too, you’re all insanely talented and I’m cheering you on!

Lastly, this show is dedicated to all the hard-working women out there, to the strong women I’ve crossed paths with, and to the resilient women in my lineage.
